Significance of Kolam

sharing my views..........

hi all,
Here at cochin we live in apartments all are brahmins, so at front of the each house inorder to draw kolam they have put black tiles in the square shape, rest of the area with mozaic tiles. Here what we do is we grind the rice with little maida , and filter it as thick decoction and pour it in oil can (which we use for the sewing machines to put oil) and at nozzle we put old refil pen's unused white portion, so we can draw thin lines and as we use maida in it the kolam would stay for 2 days also....We draw our own creative designs, traditional puli and padi kolams and we use mehendi patterns too..... as i don't have camera i couldn't show u all the picture of the kolam....

Very,very beautiful. I admire you and people who can draw kolams, I am myself very far from art. I wish I could make such lovely kolams for my pooja and doorstep. Please post more.
