I just gave way to a car in my lane and it irked the driver behind me..He zoomed past the next lane and shows me his middle finger...

Another time same thing happened few years back..

My question is mistake or not, angry or not..what is this showing the middle finger? What kind of manners is that?
How can people get so unclassy?

Even there have been times when I have gotten angry at another driver but never shown the middle finger..

Is this common, happened to anyone before? If so,how did you react?

Yeah, happened a few times. I try to shrug it off. One time it happened, my child asked what that gesture from the other driver meant. For the first time ever I used the 'ask dad' card. Was a good payback. Because years ago, same child had asked dad, "no.. that does not make sense. how are babies really made?" It was Saturday night and I had gone to bed early. Dad said, 'ask amma.' Next day morning, I go to say good morning to child, and that was the first question. I hadn't even had my morning coffee. DH got a good earful, 'could have at least given me a heads-up.'

I have read that your area's roads are notorious for road-rage incidents and people cutting off others, and so on. As long as one reaches home safe and sound...

That was an aggressive driver . Good that he changed lanes and moved away. Stay away from people who honk unnecessarily or make obscene gestures. Also from tailgaters , most of them are aggressive drivers.

Well true..for me it was like the hand gesture is disrespectful and that too to a woman.

I am not playing the woman card but it was insulting..hurt my pride maybe:)

I was like “his mom, wife, daughter is a woman”..anyways this hand gesture for anyone sucks...

This comes with the territory. I always ignore and never engage such drivers. There are too many trigger-happy yahoos in our area and I don't want to end up as another statistic.

Heard an incident, pulled a gun to shoot the other driver! Was it in Texas?

Happened to me once before, it's crazy how infuriating it feels! Likewise with some people hurling insults or yelling at you while driving behind you.

I think that the best option here is just to ignore and be the bigger person.
