    Hi IL's ,

    Milk is considered to be one of the rich nutrient source food options that we have . In spite of quoting this ,there has always been confusion about where is the milk is coming from? and what's added to it ? While many of us have concerns about the growth harmones in milk.

    1. Do you believe drinking Milk is safe ?
    2. How do you all choose Milk ?
    3. What do you check on Milk bottle labels ? I would also want to know from where do you buy Milk usually ?

    I don't drink a lot of cow's milk, but when I do I get the organic kind that has no added hormones. We have a local dairy that sells gently-pasteurized milk. Some people have had good luck with avoiding lactose intolerance by using a2 milk.

    @MalStrom

    @MalStrom Thanks for posting. Just curious to know What brand organic Milk you buy?

    Its generally hard on deciding what kind of Milk to consume in the US! There are innumerous brands and types . Reading a lot of article over Internet on what type of Milk to buy is not useful. The question and answers always run in loop. A lot of health issues have been named after consuming milk and we see an extra class of 'Vegan' in the present days . People think instead of inviting health issues its best to avoid and look for alternatives of Milk. But there is nothing that alternates Milk. I was so confused with the low fat, skim , Full fat, lactose free , Partly skimmed, whole, Raw or unpasteurised , pasteurised low fat , Pasteurised with Vitamin D .. the combination is kind of endless. I finally decided to go with pasteurised whole Milk from Local diary. But the way Milk behaves ( the unused tea that i make in the morning turns jelly like by evening , I see white thick solids sticking to the Milk Can when I am using the last portions of milk in can ) I still doubt I can consume and its healthy. I try to convert Milk to curds and consume in the form of butter milk or curds with rice which I believe is more useful because of live bacteria.

    Milk is not doubt highly commercialised these days . The cows are fed with corn and soy and injected with harmones .

    People are so sensitive to the whole diary subject and there are so many views on it. No single view is final !

    The brand I buy is called Trickling Springs, sold in glass bottles. I always get the homogenized whole milk.

    Try to buy " certified organic milk".
    We buy organic whole milk for kids from stores like Kroger, walmart ,cosco or any local organic food stores. Check expiry dates on the bottle.

    You can use milk as long us you don't have any issue. If there is digestion or bloating , reduce it. A2 milk is suggested for people with lactose intolerance. In severe case, doctors suggest to stop the use of all diary products.

    More than the health issues , people have been going vegan because of how these cattle are treated . There are enough documentaries made by now that should give you an insight into how these animals are treated . Please go through peta website for more information on this .

    Do you really think big companies like horizon and Kirkland care about public health ? The cows milk may by rgbt hormone free but how we do we know these cows are 100%grass fed . For them, grazing is more expensive than soy or corn as they need to have large farmlands so I really doubt if all the cows in their farmlands are grass fed . It’s always cheaper and easier to feed them soy or corn .

    Oh btw , Costco Sells this dha fortified Kirkland milk which has fish oil . You will see it listed in the packaging. Kirkland milk comes from aurora farms which has ben in the news in the past with a slew of controversies . And horizon also has this dha fortified which is nothing but algal oil additive .

    Best if you can get your milk from a local , small scale diary . I personally like the milk from whole foods which comes in a glass bottle or my local farmers market .

    The dairy and poultry industry are highly cruel.I believe in veganism but can't do that suddenly. But still I'm trying my best and have cut down to bare minimum. At India, I can't find many organic free range milk , free range eggs etc easily. Also the organic milk is expensive for daily consumption.
