Mums, Solar heater in installed in my house(parents house) and u get hot water supply during hot weather..
The solar heater itself has electric heating also and you can switch it on for sometime to get hot water during cold weather. We have been using for around 8 years and is running without any problems..

Other ways to use solar energy

1.Do not use dryers for clothes and hair :)

2.Open the curtains during day time and allow the sunshine during day time

3.Wake up by the time sun rises and try to finish chores with the help of sunlight instead of doing it in the night time using lights..
    Early to rise ,
    Early to bed
    makes a man healthy,wealthy and wise ;)

    4.Have a walk during sunrise / sunset and get vitamin D :)

    Every drop counts :)

In hot places solar cookers can be used. My mum uses it turns out quite tasty. But one has to be careful while taking out the food can easily burn ones hands.

We are staying in rented house, so not possible for installing solar s here.

Solar heaters with electric heating is a good solution during cold seasons.

Solar Lanterns are a real neat idea. We have one at home that comes with a 1 sq ft panel that we hang out in the sun and plug in with a cable to charge the lantern. Costed about INR4000. But we got it as a gift and its definitely very useful.

A few of the top floor apartments in our area have opted for solar energy. Seems like a real nice idea and saves a lot on water heating bills. My uncle who lives in Mysore too has those. Actually I've seen many many houses in Mysore with a solar heater to supply hot water all through the year. Neat idea right?

Yes, but we bought it during an environmental exhibition. I'll ask around and let you know.
