Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) mandatory for being eligible to become Teachers had shameful results, read the article below in The Hindu dated 26th Aug 12:-

0.6% of the candidates appeared passed Paper 1 and 0.2% of the candidates passed Paper 2, Total of 83 Teachers passed both the papers out of 6,76,000 teachers.

The Hindu : Today's Paper / NATIONAL : TET to be held again on October 3, says Teachers Recruitment Board

The low pass percentage in the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), passing which is now mandatory for appointment as teachers up to elementary school level in the state, has prompted the government to direct the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) to conduct TET again on October 3.

According to an official release, about 2.88 lakh candidates wrote the TET for Paper I (Secondary Grade Teachers) and over 3.88 lakh took Paper II (Graduate Assistants) last July. Candidates who had secured 60 per cent marks and above have been declared to have passed TET, subject to the certificate verification and production of valid documents at the time of certificate verification, the dates of which will be announced shortly.

According to the results, 1,735 candidates have passed for Paper I and 713 candidates in Paper II and 83 candidates have qualified for both Paper I and Paper II. After the government noticed the low pass percentage in TET examination, it has directed the TRB to conduct another TET for those candidates who have not obtained 60 per cent marks. This decision was taken keeping in mind the welfare of the children and need for teachers to be recruited at the earliest in the vacant position.

Based on the government directive, the TRB would conduct TET on October 3 and has increased the duration of both papers from one-and-half hours to three hours with additional half-an-hour for the visually challenged. For this TET, the candidates who took the first test need not apply afresh. Old applications hold good and call letters would be sent shortly.

In view of TET, the government has proposed to declare October 3, 2012 as a holiday for all schools to enable the TRB to conduct the test on time, the official release said adding that the results of this test would be published by the end of October itself.

Move comes in the wake of low pass percentage of the candidates

Wow...What is with the teaching profession now. I don't think teaching is a passion any more. It has become like any other job people do to make a living.

In many cases Teaching has been another job especially the last option to select after not being comfortable at IT, Manufacturing.. The nobleness in the profession is lost. That is what is reflected in the above results.

When it was made mandatory to clear the exam to eligible teachers have rushed to write the exam, but could not fare well.

Now, the committee has increased the duration of the exam by 30 minutes more. didn't the committee knew before the time limit plays a vital role to understand the efficiency of the candidates who attend the exam.

"In many cases Teaching has been another job especially the last option to select after not being comfortable at IT, Manufacturing.." ---------- i agree with this 100 percent but......

"The nobleness in the profession is lost" -------------------- this is for those who still not feel that "we did not get what we liked, but we got some other line which we need to shine" so may be 50 percent of people may degrade the profession as you said.

Two things which were felt embarrassing is that the questions

    1. Out of syllabus

    2. Time was not enough to complete them.

    Re-exam on Oct14th 2012,30min extra time

They teach the same lessons, chapters year after year and really don't understand why they need extra preparation.

Also the committee has sat and arrived at a time frame to answer the question paper, when most teachers felt that time was not enough, either the committee analyzed it wrong or the exam givers were less prepared.:hide:

Sad to Know students are in the hands of these teachers. May the almighty help us to improve the Education Quality.

    AN Update for 2013...

Will TRB Questions Easy this year in 2013 ?

    Last year ( 2012 ), in
the first exam, there were about 6.72 Lakhs aspirants wrote the Teachers
Eligibility Test conducted by TRB. Only 0.36 % of candidates could successfully
clear the exam. Total 2,448 candidates only came out successfully. ( 1735 DTed
    candidates and 713 BEd candidates).

    In the second re-exam 19,246
candidates has successfully cleared TNTET exam. It was about 3 % of the total
applicants of about 6.56 lakhs candidates.

    All the successful candidates
were appointed as Teachers by the Tamilnadu Goverment.

    Thus, to avoid
two repetitive exams, TRB may this time make the questions in the Teachers
Eligibility Test easier than that of previous year questions.
