Hi sabramathi,I use usha Janome which various types of inbuilt stitches. There is a lever at the bottom where we put bobbin.By pushing that to one side we can bring the foot pressure down, then we cas do machine embroidery.

    hi artvani,

i was awaiting y'r response. A few months back, I tried to embroider after lowering the feed dogs. But , it was v. difficult to get a proper embroidery.
So, i didn't want to take risk or break the neeedle and thus spoil the machine. I had stopped trying these until I happened to see a few of y'r stunning works.

I have a usha janome - fashion stitch [ indian make] & a singer [USA make] one with 65 built in stitches.

My doubt is : after fixing the hoop to the fabric and lowering the feed dogs and removing the presser foot, what should i do so as to get a neat embroidery work. I was told that i'll have to move the hoop according to the design. But, nothing works. pls help me out.

thank u for y'r forthcoming help in this regard.

    regards,
    sabari

Hi sabrimathi' in these machines with preset stitches we can stitch straight. No need for the hoop.We cannot stitch those stitches using the hoop.Even I did the same mistake. vidu69 has explained the method of doing machine embroidery in the thread Embroidery :Machine Embroidery Tips & Tricks. Machine embroidery needs practice.movement of the hoop and peddling should coordinate.

    hi vani,

thank u for the reply. I went thru' the post embroidery : machine embroidery tips & tricks and found Vidu29's post to be brilliant.

I didnot learn machine embroidery, but had always wanted to . I did hand embroidery, but couldn't succeed due to the neck pain, and backaches. I tried to do machine embroidery after going thru the video from ushainternational website
. Since i had a usha janome fashion stitch, i logged on to their website, and found the video tutorial to be excellent.

But, for my queries , i didn't know whom to approach, when i found one of y'r post. thx a lot for y'r guidance. And, for Vidu29's guidance, i think it is really good to have such a beautiful teacher like her. Thx again for giving me the link. I hope i'll try it as soon as possible.

    regards,
    sabari

re: Tips/Designs for stiching neck design

    Hi,
I am leaning stitiching from scratch, though I already know and stitch amatuerishly. The method taught at my school is foolproof. I shall try to explain.
1.First mark the measurements on the fabric and cut all sides except the next design.
    2. Now decide what neck you are going to cut.
3.There is a canvas available called neck canvas here in Chennai, it has wax on one side and is thin only. If available, get it.
    4. Now mark the neck measurement on a paper and design the neck and cut it. Keep the cut off part, that is the portion we usually throw away. The neck measurement should be the right one, no need to have seam allowance now.
5.If the neck is ok, take the canvas and fold in two -there should be enough for the neck portion, around 2 inches.
    6. Keep the cut off portion of the paper on the fold and draw the neck on the canvas.Draw the design and mark a width of 2 inches, draw a round-like and cut off.
7.Mark the neck measurement on the fabric. Keep the canvas with wax side facing the fabric. Iron well so that the piece sticks on the fabric.
8.when it is cool, cut off the excess fabric, leaving 1/2 inch seam allowance. Cut slits if the desing is too intricate so that when turning inside the fabric looks good and does not shrink.
9.Cut fabric in the same shape as the canvas, with 1/2 inch more seam (to fold).
    10. Attach to the fabric stitching just near the canvas, neatly.Turn inside and stitch edge also from the frontside of the fabric. The neck will look good now. Now fold the seam and hem. The neck is finished.
Please feel free to raise doubts. will try to upload photos soon.
