    Dear friends,

Anyone took HSG test second time, my RE is asking me to go for second HSG.

about myself i am 30 and my husband is 37, trying for baby more than two years and two months back i have consulted ob/gyn and she asked me to go for fallowing tests

blood test for prolactin and thyroid and it came back normal.

Hsg test for tubes and its not normal my radiologist said that my right tube is perfectly nomal and spilled the dye, he said my left tube didn't spill the dye. the dye entered the tube but didn't spill might be because some scar tissue or adhesions thats what he said

and my husbands semen analysis also not normal he has low count and has some slight morpology issues

So my ob/gyn asked us to consult specialist for IUI and refered to my RE.

we went to RE two weeks back and he is asking me to go for second HSG to confirm the results and this time he will be at testing room and he performs the dye test.then he will do laparoscopy surgery if it still shows blocked tube, before doing IUI.

now my question is do i need to go for second hsg my insurance doesnt cover infertility tests and hsg test also, they charged $1330 hopital bill and 220$ doctor bill for first hsg.this time it will not be that much as i have met my 1000$ deductable and i will pay 20% of the bill and insurance will pay 80%.i don't know about lape surgery wether the insurance cover or not.

do you think i should go for second hsg test or i should go directly to IUI without HSG test and Laparoscopy.

    please suggest me.

    Hi Dreams,
Did you ask your RE why he wants to do a second HSG test ?? Does he believe that your first HSG results were incorrect?? And will your RE perform a lap surgery as soon as he sees a blocked tube??
I think you should be asking all these questions to your RE n if he has good explaination then u can do as he suggests.

    Hi Priya
Thank you very much for your reply and my doctor told me that sometimes HSG test shows wrong results and the doctors see open tubes in laparoscopy whereas they showed as blocked in hsg.

And he feels that my results may be wrong because i never had any surgerys and i dont have painful periods so he wants to perform hsg again and if it shows blocked then he said he will perform lap surgery.but i dont know how soon he will do surgery after hsg.

    Dreams,

HSG is normally recommended twice or thrice for the following reasons.

1.Patient is not cooperative because of the pain caused due to the procedure and hence the X ray will become unclear.(i.e.) X ray film is not clear enough to show the shape of the uterus and patency of the tubes

2.X ray film failed to show other abnormalities..

HSG is repeated one more time if a bloackage in one or both of the tubes is suspected.

Hence it is a good idea to repeat HSG.It has happened to me also and an abnormality in the shape of the uterus is identified in my second HSG.

If everything is perfect,it prevents an opportunity to go for hysterescopy/laporoscopy unnecessarily.

    Good Luck!

    Hi Dreams,
Please follow Raji's advice since i am also new to HSG as i will have my first HSG scheduled for early next month. So maybe as Raji suggested u might need another HSG. I know how expensive these infertility tests are in US. Even i am in the same boat as urs but i guess we have no other option.

    Thanks Raji and priya,

I didn't have that much pain during HSG i think the only problem is my left tube didn't spill the dye and the right tube spilled the dye immediatly.

what my doctor saying is sometimes when the uterus twilted to one side in that case all the dye goes into one tube before its enters into the other tube fully.so he thinks that may be the reason my other tube didn't spill the dye and he wanted to do the test by himself this time but now we spoke to the insurance and they are not going to cover the HSG test.

I have told my doctor about insurance problem and he said that if that is the case no need to do the test again and he will get the X-Ray film of the previous HSG test and will let me know whether i need to go for Laparoscopy or directly to IUI.

what is your openion with the cost of HSg test 1600$ or some thing i can go for IUI.
and i dont know how the laparoscopy surgery cost if my doctor insists to do laparoscopy we have to pay that on our own.

    Thank you.

    Dreams,

I did not know the cost of HSG in U.S.OMG!

Follow your RE's advice..If he is sure to go for IUI without a seocnd HSG,Proceed with that. But compare the cost of HSG and IUI and laparoscopy too and decide accordingly..

    Good Luck!

    Hi Dreams,
Yeah HSG is very expensive. My quote is coming to some 1200$ so even i need to call my insurance to see if i am covered or not.
Good luck with whatever u decide to do.

After seeing my x-ray film my RE told that my left tube is completely blocked and he gave us two options either i can go for laparoscopy surgery and try iui for some time or i can go to IVF directly.

we decided to go for laparoscopy surgery and try iui for some time but still i don't know why this happend to me i am healthy and i don't have any illness

    Dear Dreams,

    Dont worry! Be relaxed!

It is good to know that you dont have any other major problems other than this tubal block. You do have better chances with IUI since you will also ovulate in the other tube which is free of blockages. Please be calm and go ahead with Laparoscopy....Try IUI and then we will have IVF as the last option.

Dont worry! All of us are here to lend a helping hand and smiling with praying lips!

Good Luck to your further steps and stay calm!
