Scarf with western dress: should I shorten the scarf to match my height

I love dupatta in desi clothes. It is god sent gift for top heavy women. Unfortunately there is no dupatta in western wear & that is one of my biggest complain toward western wear. Of course I could lose some weight and not have the need to cover up so much, but that is not the point of this thread. For now I try to incorporate vest and scarf as much as possible.

Sometimes I like to wear scarf with button down shirt. I tuck the scarf under shirt collar and letting it drape from both sides. I like the look (similar to Hilary Clintons scarf + pant suit style) but I am short & the scarf hangs below my hip making it look awkward. Should I cut the scarf or will that look weirder?
