    samba,

Agreed never link insurance and investment and both are independent vehicles..as a parent, i would like to ensure my child's future. i still believe some term insurances are investment vehicles again this has to be done with good study of the small print and not just because some agent is telling you to..

So, Does that mean that we should not be investing in any Mutual Funds from LIC. I guess Iam ignorant about whether LIC is having Mutual funds plans without insurance.

    Thanks,
    Geetha

Plus, recently, DD's teacher sent us to this site www.beestar.org for free math programs. The math worksheet is FREE all year long for Grade 1-6 online. All real life word problems, challenging stuff to help kids thinking. We did kumon before. It's definitely more interesting problems than the worksheets for Kumon. DD loves it!:) We also save quite a few $$ because the monthly bill pressure from kumon is really heavy...

    Re: kids plans

We have opened a normal savings account for our son since he became 18 months. Every month we have set up an auto-debit into his account.
The amount will be used for his education

    Pavithra,

If the account is india, and the amount is decent, shift it to a rd/fd, with the interest rates looking up, you get a better return than when it is in the sb.
