Saffron Wonder

Spouse and I set out from our home situated in an isolated suburb to other end of the city.It is normal for her to remainin delectable dilemma as to what to wear and where to hide her precious jewellery so that it would be beyond reach of potential thieves.
From her precious collection, she picked up diamond ear-studs, gold bangles and a goldennecklace that was gifted to her duringsilver jubileecelebration ofour wedding. She softly wrapped it up all in a saffron satin-kerchief, kept it in her sling bag.
She stuffed the rest of jewels each in a pink tissue paper-bag, deposited it deep into a metal drum filled with raw rice.Having covered it with lid, glancing toward me she left a vegetable bamboo basket over it.Her mobile buzzed with GayathriManthra. She answered it “coming”.We got into call-taxi. The driver was directed to the venue. Few moments later, she took out the necklace from her sling-bag and wore it meticulously. She nudged meto check necklace hook behind her nape. I noticed driver pretending adjusting rear view mirror over the windscreen glancing at our image.
Due to extant traffic regulation, we alighted afar venue. In a cloudless sky, sun was at its zenith. We sauntered through breeze and the barricaded crowded side-walk. When we merged into the waiting devotees looking at the blank broad road, awhite car garlanded in front was seenin snail’s paceapproachingus. Asthe car with its window glass down appeared right infront of us, from its left front seat, soft-smiling Bhagawanheld up His outstretched arms up withHis open palms facing us.Time stood still. View was eye-full for almost ten seconds.Teary-eyed, we felt blessed.Devotees panned out in different directions. A volunteer escorted us to a waiting bus.We were ushered into the bus amidst the chorus of lilting bhajan by those already present.Bus began rolling forward.The moment we alighted at our destination, we felt hunger. So we entered into Udipi restaurant nearby.
As we took aisle seat facing each other, behind my spouse chair, I saw a tallman; head rich in black bouncing hair in coils, clad in long ochre kurthawas seen sitting pretending sipping from a tall glass. His gaze was alternating between us and His glass.
We collected the bill, stood up and reached the wide-eyed cashier behind the counter. From ear-short, I saw the tall man scurrying toward us profferingdangling necklace. At the same time, I noticed bareneck of my spouse; and she-receiving hernecklace from his sleeved hands. He darted out, exited whenIstood nonplussed. Seconds later looked for him on the road from elevated carpeted entrance of the restaurant. Heseemed vanished into thin air.
What a great darshanto behold and what great relief!
