For those who are outside the country, and do have few thousand ruppees notes..after march 2017 (NRI) it has no value. If you go to India you can deposit it in your account, upto 2 lakhs, no questions asked. If you do not plan to go to India, send you few thousands if you have, to some poor relative so they can make use of the money, or send it to charity. All the currency after the end of the year will be of no value. Just food for thought..
Those who are residing outside India when they mail the 1000 and 500 ruppee notes, the receiver can exchange it before the end of the year. Also, NRI's are allowed until March 2107 to deposit into their Indian account if they have one. if you have family, they can deposit on your behalf.
