ROLE OF MONEY IN OVERCOMING SINS
    (FOOD FOR THOUGHT)

According to scriptures, there are seven deadly sins . . .

    (1) vainglory, or pride,

    (2) greed, or covetousness,

    (3) lust, or inordinate or illicit sexual desire,

    (4) envy,

    (5) gluttony, which is usually understood to include drunkenness,

    (6) wrath, or anger, and

    (7) sloth.

Each of these can be overcome with the seven corresponding virtues of

    (1) humility,

    (2) charity,

    (3) chastity,

    (4) gratitude,

    (5) temperance,

    (6) patience, and

    (7) diligence.

However, George Bernard Shaw says there are seven milestones of life and they are . . .
    1. food,

    2. clothing,

    3. firing,

    4. rent,

    5. taxes,

    6. respectability and

    7. children.

Nothing can lift those seven millstones from Man's neck but money; and the spirit cannot soar until the millstones are lifted.

    Conclusion:

Money is important to lift the seven milestones in live as above and then only spirit can sour to develop the seven virtues and thus overcome the seven sins.

Absolkving sins has akways been a means toi make money for religious institutions and charlatans under the guise of holy men,. In medieval Europe there used to be a tribe of people known as "Pardoners" who "absolved" people of their sins, real or imagined for a price. Similarly in India Brahmins used to collect dakshina for chanting some n mantras to wash one's sins away. This is a good business and will remain so as long s there are gulliable people.

Most of the sins are committed to acquire money. Then the same money is used to absolve from the sin. Interesting

It is difficult to say which came first- money or sins committed for earning that money. I guess humans are born selfish and can go to any extent to meet their selfish ends.
The point is, money is needed to satisfy the basic needs, after satisfying the basic needs, one may think of virtues and in turn, may be motivated to commit no more sins. In place of money, we can say barterable 'possessions' and maybe bitcoins now. This is a universal truth.
They say power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. We can say money corrupts and hunger for more money corrupts absolutely.
The concept of the caste system could have been tolerable if it was not linked to birth. It was meant that way, I guess. As is normal, everyone expects a better price for services rendered. If the Brahmins, rightly or wrongly asked for more money, so did all. I need not elaborate
The basic point remains, Bhuke Bhajan na hot Gopala( Oh God I can not sing bhajans in your praise on empty stomach.)

Yeah. Maybe, maybe not. There still are people who earn their living honestly. And as you say, the problem starts when they start acquiring more money for whatever reason, they compromise with their well-intentioned ethics.
But, the point is, can we be ethical without money?
