In our husbands side, they do any pooja for kula deivam only on Monday. they are telling even for my Kids first Mottai, it should be done only on Monday. Also there is one more custom, if any ladies in the family (pangalies- though not direclty related) is pregnant , we should not put Mottai. since some or other person are pregnant and if it is free on Monday, we could not take any leaves. We being in bangalore (our elders are there in a place near vellore. But our Kuladeivam is near Kalasthri), cannot take holiday as and when. Early days so many traditions are followed with reason. but today we forget for what purpose and cause , the tradition are followed and blindly saying this should not be done for no reason. I want to know, 1. on what basis days to pooja is calculated 2. why is some body is pregnant , we should not put mottai. thanks Kavitha
kavitha, For certain gods particular days are auspicious...say for eswaran it is monday, perumal it is saturday but it is not like that day alone should be taken into account..it is well and good if a function is celebrated on that day..Like you said people had so many reasons those days..but we forget everything and blindly follow it now :hide: For us too monday is an important day..but for occassions and all we dont have this restricion..naturally if it falls on that day we feel satisfied. Regarding mottai i am not sure..In our custom things like "Keda vettu" are not entertained if somebody in family is pregnant.But not sure about mottai.Sorry.
hi Cinduja, thanks for ur reply. Some how my family members are convinced, and we went to Kula deivam y'day and put Mottai for both my kids. finally they understood our problems, (may be atleast for this) Alas mission acheived
