Right age to teach 3 letter and 4 letter words to toddlers

Hi all,

Can you tell me what is the right age to teach words to toddlers.

My son who is 2 and a half recognizes a few but a few he gets them wrong.

Sometimes he does not show interest in words at all and wants to play on his own. He does talk good for his age.

I am concerned that he might not shine academically since he is not interested in learning but only playing.

Can anyone of you share your thoughts please!

It all depends on grasping power of the kids and how you teach it.. If you try teaching it in playway kids learn fast..

Have you tried the phonics method? Kids tend to figure out cvc (consonant-vowel-consonant) words better with phonics...

IMO, your son's doing pretty well for a 2 year old, if he can recognize words!

hi

i am a consultant in play school, please do not ever force the child to read words or make them to write. its better to give more activity like leaf printing, sand spraying, bit pasting, paper rolling etc., yet there eye and hand is not co-ordinated only after pre-school or during LKG they will able to write. during 3 years age you can prepare 2 letter words as sight words in chart and make him to read daily. at the 3rd term you can introduce him for 3 letter and 4 letter words.

please allow the child to play it is their nature. do not deviate from their nature. when the child is at 2 years and 6 months put him in play school or montessori school.

The more you play with your child, talk and describe your child's play the brighter he will shine academically-when the time is right. so enjoy your time with him.
