Can you plz give me some latest updates.
    Concerns
-Apartments close to office, I read about Kimball, any new additions to the list? I will be in heaven if its near a park or mall where i can take kido for a walk.. :)
-Public School for our son, close by and the documents required for the admission procedure. When is the summer vacation?
-Is there any meeting point or groups for Indians in the locality?
-Anything which i need to be aware of or bring before the move.
    - I am not planning to work there.
-How is the public transport there? Can I walk to parks/malls from most of the apartments? We will be taking just one car, so I am worried about my mode of transportation.. :)

I am a bit concerned about the move from the stable set-up that we have here.. and I dont have any friends in MA. So please do help.

    Regards
    Dhanya

    Dhanya,

Hi and welcome to MA.. :) I have been living here in Woburn for the past 4+ years.. A Dentist by proffession and a full time mommy right now. :)

I thought I shall respond to the queries you asked in the thread about relocating to here..Will try my best to answer.
-Apartments close to office, I read about Kimball, any new additions to the list?

Brookside Apartments ( Totman Dr )
Tudor GLenn Village properties ( Locust St )
GLenn Brook Apartments ( Bedford road )
All these are in Woburn and on buslines. :))

I will be in heaven if its near a park or mall where i can take kido for a walk.. :)

    - There are parks at short distance by drive.
    - There is Burlington Mall about 15 mins by bus. Buses are very frequent here and you could check on their timings on MBTA.com
Woburn is PARADISE.. You have indian restaurants, groceries and mostly ALL that we could need including Indian Parlour all at drivable distance of less than 15 mins. So, trust me, it is HEAVEN ! :))

-Public School for our son, close by and the documents required for the admission procedure.

Woburn area residents can go to Shamrock or to Reeves Public School. They are very good. Private Schools are available too but are pricey.

    When is the summer vacation?

Between June and Aug I suppose ( well, I have a 2 year old who hasnt started schooling, so not yet there ) But, I guess, you need to apply once you come here, with the proof of residence. You could request them to take him in from this Sep.

-Is there any meeting point or groups for Indians in the locality?

I thought this way when I first came here, Dhanya. But, dont you worry.. you will make friends in no time. Atleast you can count on me ! :) I made excellent friends through IL too.

-Anything which i need to be aware of or bring before the move.

Get your kids' basic medicines because it may take awhile till you get your insurance. You could ask me if you are wondering about anything in particular.

    - I am not planning to work there.
-How is the public transport there? Can I walk to parks/malls from most of the apartments? We will be taking just one car, so I am worried about my mode of transportation.. :)

Public Transportation is excellent here. :) There are buses to most of the important places. You could also come here and take your driving license. You could always drop your hubby to the office and then HAVE FUN !! Most of my friends do that.. :)

Since you havent posted enough and I couldnt send you a PM. Removed the personal information and posted the rest. :)

Let me know if you need more help / info.

    Hi Preethi

Are you still in woburn? I am not able to access my Inbox, guess i'll have to make 10 more posts to access it. I was not aware of this restriction .. so not able to see your old messages :(
We will be there by July end on B1/B2 visas as of now. Can you suggest any furnished appartment for 3-6 months closer to burlington mall (hubby's office is there). We are looking for something within 2000 USD.

    Regards
    Dhanya

    Hi
We are looking for 1 bedroom appartment in woburn/burlington area (office near burlington mall). Prefer someplace with play area or close to shops/park,walkable. Got to find ways to engage a 6yr old boy(We are not sure abt schooling on a B1/B2 visa). We will be there for 3-6 months as of now.
I emailed most of the guys and got replies.I have kept in mind all inputs from senior ILites :)
Here is the ones that have vaccancies ,please give any suggesstions if you have any..

Shaker Glen Village - 1 available. the doors seems to open to main road..how is the interiors?
kimball towers-one bedroom available, it is located on the 7th floor $1699/ month.
Heritage at Stone ridge -(looks very secluded in googlemap,is it?)
Tudor glen village - $1295 to $1595 how is the 1 bedroom app?
Village at taylor pond- only 6 mnths lease
Kimball court - available but didnt mention rent.
    No vaccancies in the others..!!
One big doubt, Google map shows Kimball tower and Kimball court in different locations, but i read in IL that they share the facilities.. how is that possible.. which is closer to burlington mall? and any shops in walkable distance?
    Thanks in advance
    Dhanya

    Dhanya,

Shaker Glen Village - 1 available. the doors seems to open to main road..how is the interiors?
This is ok. But somehow I didnt like the floor plan much. THey are however in a closed community. It is bang opposite to Reeves School, which your son may go to if you planning Woburn.. :)

kimball towers-one bedroom available, it is located on the 7th floor $1699/ month. - This is a good place.. But,wether it is worth the rent, I am not convinced.

Heritage at Stone ridge -(looks very secluded in googlemap,is it?)
    - You are right. Quite secluded.

Tudor glen village - $1295 to $1595 how is the 1 bedroom app?
    - You need to check wether they allow couples with kid in a 1 BR app. Few of them dont.. So, please make sure. They are good only if you are being offered 1295.

Village at taylor pond- only 6 mnths lease
    - Not heard of this one.

Kimball court - available but didnt mention rent.
2 BR would be 1800/- ( this is what I heard from a friend recently )

One big doubt, Google map shows Kimball tower and Kimball court in different locations, but i read in IL that they share the facilities.. how is that possible..

    - They are in the same community. Just two different buildings. Tower is like a high rise building.. with recent construction. That would be the major difference.

which is closer to burlington mall? and any shops in walkable distance?

I havent heard any appartments ' closer ' to Burlington mall. But, whatever you mentioned ( or the ones I have replied to ) are on buslines.

You could also live in furnished studios ( jamison ) on Main st or on Montvale Ave. THey are charged by week or day, you could always, venture on the apartments and grocery OR the city in toto by staying there. They proved pots and pans too. So, when you land in, you could be there and slowly decide further on according to your project and stay.

Dont forget to PM me when you reach here :)

You are an angel Preethi..Thanks for the help
I think we will take your advice and stay in furnished studios for few days before finding a place for long term.
We will be coming on B1/B2 and stay for 3-6 mnths and based on the taht will decide to go for longterm plans. As it is a start-up everything has to be done by us.. so the doubts..
Do you have any clue about schooling on a B1/b2 visa.. i know its not allowed as per visa rules but it also states that children should be allowed in schools irrespective of their visa status... confusing..:(
We are planning for sometime in July end. Can you suggest some airlines.. and best ways to book them.
