    Rihanji,
Sometimes, it happens. We expect something from the title of a book and find something else when we read it.
However, my idea of religious drift is not limited to one particular reason. Again, religious drift, in my opinion, is not simply running away from religion itself but includes finding an alternative. That alternative can be converting to other religion, becoming a reformer, becoming a rebel, becoming secular, becoming spiritual but not religious or becoming totally non-believer.
I am sorry that the title gave a false hope. I am happy that you read it and gave your valued feedback also and that is my reward.

"In fact, the conscience of each individual in the community is the only law that existed before education, justice, and commerce were formed by the civilizations." True was and always will be if humans hold on to it. Everything else will be of no help. A religion which doesnt help in the unity of human beings is of no value . This is one important reason for the present generation witnessing 'preaching contradicting the practice' scene everywhere. At least hindus would like to be themselves unlike others who try to impose their on others.

Sorry, Hariji, could not resist replying...saw this in "finest posts" thread, since I didn't want to 'post bomb'...:tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy: there, I hijacked your post here as quote. Indeed it deserves the award sir, more so it concerns the future generation, and who except us to do something to bring an awareness to this issue?

It so happened that I watched the movie 'Life of Pi'..briefly, and interestingly Pi's narration about faith, religion etc. Faith is something like a pole, holding strongly on to which we can go round and round confidently, that we will not fall. It is not for times when all goes well, but rather for times when all hell breaks loose, no one to turn to, etc., etc. Our g.son is no different, resisting, questioning and what not. I just keep telling him, that, when we are faced with life challenging questions, its the faith in something other than ourselves, or other people, comes to our aid in keeping the mind balanced, reduce panic & turbulence, as also to think coherently for possible solutions.
We sure need to provide some strong support system within themselves for the young. Wish to know how other g.parents face or handle this.

Hahahaaahhaaha! Left with me I would award you with the Padma but the least I can do is to nominate you for 2020 Padma Awards-will Padma Bhushan do? hahaaha
Now coming to the subject, I think we all are faithfuls and I do not mean faithful to God. Faith is something we are born with-like the child having faith in his or her handler, mainly the mother who feeds also. We all have experienced how our faith in people helped us in life. More than that we know how faith in ourselves helps us day in and ay out.
Present generation is taught and condition to have faith on their self first and last. They may do something you want them to do like bowing before the deity in the Pooja room every day but that will be totally out of respect for you as a grand parent, and not because they have faith in it.
I do not force anything on my grand children for the simple reason that they are my children's children and it is their responsibility. Since I live in USA, it is all the more difficult to convince the American born about our beliefs.

    Very true.
Sometimes faith turns into blind faith and that's the reason fo doubts.

yes, my concept of faith requires a perfect blend of head & heart. It has to be developed from childhood.

Bad luck! I would have crowned myself by boosting all over that 'kaluputti' was awarded Padma Bhushan on my sole nomination!!!!!! Well there is always a tomorrow.
Yes Faith without head and heart can be dangerous.

Just today I went through the article by Shri Harilakhera issued in the first week of Sep and various intellectual responses by other members..
It was quite an interesting study enabling interpretation of various
    sorts.
Religious drift and separating oneself from religious sentiments
had been the talk of elite even in Tretayuga and we find so many
incidents in various epics and puranas even from the vedic age.
Instances of drifting was not common in those days as people
normally respected the sentiments of others and they themselves were
    afraid of evil outcome.

For the past few hundred years many Acharyas have realised the
mind of the public and have started acknowledging the difference
of Religion and spirituality and for the past few years I have recd
so many whatspp message indicating the diff between Religion
    and spirituality.

Religion is for those who want to continue rituals and

Spirituality is for those who want to reach the Spiritual Ascent.

Religion is for those who are asleep
Spirituality is for those who are awake.

Religion is for those that require guidance from others.
Spirituality is for those that lend ears to their inner voice.

Religion has unquestionable assembly of rules that
need to be followed without question.
Spirituality invites you to reason it all, to question it all and to
decide your actions and assume the consequences.

Religion is composite like a full circle
Spirituality is like an arm or radius extending to any point in the
    circle with the same length.

    Religion invents.
    Spirituality discovers.

Religion does not investigate and does not question.
    Spirituality questions everything.

Religion is based on humanity, an
    organization with rules.
    Spirituality is DIVINE, WITHOUT rules.

Religion lives you in your thoughts.
    Spirituality lives in your conscience.

Religion is in charge of the "to do".
Spirituality is in charge of the "to BE".!!!

Even after knowing these differences we are likely to get immersed
in countless questions for which no answer is heard so far.
When this question arises, suddenly all people talk about
Scientists who normally believe things on wide examination and research.
Let us see what these scientists have to say.

Albert Einstein who dismissed the theory of God initially was forced
by the scientific evidence to conclude"There is a transcendent source
of rationality called a SUPERIOR MIND or ILLIMITABLE SUPERIOR
    POWER or a MYSTERIOUS FORCE"

Paul Dirac, a pioneer in Quantum Physics observes"God is a
mathematician of a very high order. He used Advance Mathematics
    in constructing the universe"

Physicist Max Plank says" religion and science are fighting a joint battle
in an incessant crusade against skepticism and unbelief concluding
with a rallying cry -"ON TO GOD"

Anthony Flew, a well known atheist philosopher who was at his age of
80, transformed to a believer in 2004,writes"The journey to my discovery of the Divine has been a pilgrimage of reason. It has led me to accept the existence of a self-existent,
    omnipotent,omniscient Being"

Collins, a genetic scientist, the head of the Genome Project says
"God is more plausible than atheism. In my research I have identified
several pointers to God which dragged me towards the MIND that created the universe, more remarkably, life. This MIND has a mathematical bent beyond imagination. The universe has been finely tuned to produce
    and sustain life."

He further states"There are exact numerical value for certain
constants which make the planets exist. If you interfere in any of the
constants, the universe will not have a complexity needed for evolution.
If the gravity had been weak, matter would fly apart and there will be no
planets. If the gravity had been stronger ,BIG BANG would have been
followed by a BIG CRUNCH and there would not have been evolution
of intelligence in stages..So I believe there is a God who loves Maths,
wants a universe ,keeps a balance of complexities in specific
mathematical proportion which enables living beings to evolve into
intelligence and more intelligence to understand His complexities better"

To conclude, scientists who have arrived at the door steps of God ,
have not taken a route illuminated by religious faith, but have travelled
a long distance by sticking to evidence, by looking into very small
and very large things, exploring DNA and quantum particles, and
puzzles of the universe and in the BLUE PRINT they see the
    hand of GOD.

So GOD may not be,as the atheists believe,a DELUSION but a
    definite CONCLUSION.

The INFINITE INTELLIGENCE that maintains all the planets in
the orbits and maintains the molecular chemical composition
of air which all the living beings breathe, may not be the product
of narrow fundamentalism but a great truth accepted by rigorous
    scientific minds .
