Sukanta Thali I will start with one of my favourite restaurants!! Name : Sukanta Venue : JM Road. near Z bridge, Pune Type of food : Unlimited Veg. Gujarati Thali The menu is pre-decided by the management The ambiance : Good, with rajasthani style painitngs and an avergae seating arrangement. Though, I dont think that this is a place that you would want to go if your expectations on ambiance is too high The quality of food : * The quality is SUPER-good and that is one of the reasons that I like this place. * The food is never too spicy (as it can be imagined coz it is Gujarati thali) and not too oily * Atleast 3 types of veggies, 1 or 2 snack, 1 chat item, 1 or 2 sweets, rotis, puris (at times), bhakari, papad, 2 or 3 types of rice, dal, kadhi, salad, and an assortment of chatneys * I simply love the sweets here - I have tasted their chikoo rabdi, dry fruit rabdi, sitaphal rabdi, fruit salad, aam ras, and many more and I simply liked it * and after the stomach filling food - you get to eat a pan while leaving !! The service : * The menu being pre-decided, the food is all ready at ur service and you can eat on as soon as you get here * The service might get busy on weekends, when more number of people are there * Importnat point - its really really tough to get a seat here because there is a waiting list here on weekends - so ypu can count for min of half an hr of waiting before you can get inside The pricing : As anything in Pune, the price is a bit high it is around it was around 180/- per head the last time I visited All in all, I like the place and definitely a place to eat if you are royally hungry for some royal food.!!
Hi all, from my side, 1) Sree krishna restaurent in Vimman nagar, few mins from signal. excellent food, you'll get all types of food, thali, chaat, nice ambience, excellent service, worth visit, money. 2) Kalyani restaurent in Kalyani nagar, near to Life style building hotspot, only thing is heavy rush you have to wait for 20 mins atleast to get the seat, because of taste heavy rush on weekends the smell itself will welcome you inside.:cheers 3) Naivediyam in Chinchwad, money wise it is less expensive, but taste wise excellent, nice service, superb food unlimited:thumbsup.:drool will come back once i got:idea
Dear vivbass, can you tell me where this restaurant is ?:hide: it sounds good, i would like to visit it too..

Name and address : Asha Dining Hall, Apte road Directions to the place : You will definitely be needing this because is so much in the interuiors that you might never see it. Take a right-turn after passing Roopali at F.C.Road (remember FCRoad is one way now) Go straight and take the major left turn that you come across Go straight till you see "Shreyas" hotel on your right, opposite to it you an entrance towards a colony of buildings. Go inside and look around, you wont miss from here type of food : Unlimited Veg.Maharashtrian Thali Pre-decided menu by managerment 2 rasa bhaji + 1 sukhi bhaji + rasam + dal + chapati + rice + koshambir + chatney + 1 limited papad + 1 katori curd (This was what I got when I went there) ambiance : When I first heard of it, I though it might have been a nice restaurant. But a visit to thins place and a look around it showed some basic seating arrangements and tables. So you can guess, not much of an ambiance pricing : 70Rs per thali (extra charges for sweets, cold drinks, mineral water, extra curd/papad) food quality : 1) I dint not like it very much. Infact, I really did not like the menu selection. 2 rasa bhajis that we got did not vegetables in it. They were pulses only. So not a point in calling it bhaji. 2) I got 2 stones (each half the size of a pea) in my rasa %$$&^%& 3) and the dry bhaji that we got was potatoes (the cheapest i guess) but the complaint that I have got here is - the potatoes were NOT COOKED WELL !! I had very little of it fearing an indigestion.! 4) The rasam was good enough. 5) The dal was of a sweeter version, dont know for sure if that is what you get everyday here, but it was passable 6 The only part that I liked was the carrot koshambir that was offered here and I had my fill! service : Its the thali system, so the food is ready and they keep serving you. No issues in that. Verdict : It appears to be more like a mess! But I have eaten at messes that offer better food with cheaper price. 70 bucks !! NOT WORTH. (Rather I was thinking Iwould add 20 bucks more and go eat at Durwankur, Tilak Road which struck me more clean, better food, more eateries) I wont be visiting this place ever and I am not going to recommend it my friends either
My favourite restaurants in pune are 1. Mayur in JM road 2.Madhuban in DP road.after 8 years visited madhuban....should have dahi vada from here. next time i will try sree krishna... thank you gayathri for starting this thread.we were in pune in kalyani nagar for 8 years.will settle down in pune later.
Glad you liked the thread Vijaya! I have heard of Sree krishna hotel at Kalyani Nagar (thats the one you are speaking of, right?) too.. My friends like the place very much - but I have never been there. But I wish I could go there too cvery soon
Mainland China D.P.Road I was in a mood to eat at a posh place, and all I could think of for a lovely dinner with a twist was kebabs. It was not because I had run out of ideas for dinner, but I could visualise only kebabs since the afternoon on that day!! Ah, how I wanted to eat kebabs - hell, I am a veggie, still!!! - and the best place for it (as of what I knew) was Bombay Brassarie. They bring loads and loads of kebas for you until ou are full and what follows is a simple meal of Dal-roti and a rics dish with a desssert (no extraveganza on the main course, because all the extra-extra-extraveganza are on the kebabs!) But I was in for a disappointment when I saw a "Oh! Calcutta" at it place. Well, I was sceptical to try this new joint out because I knew zilch about this place. So, I changed plans to go to near-by Sigree - they dont have actual kebabs but barbeques. But alas, I was for another disappoinment - they were full for 45 more mins - and it was already 10pm!!! Poo, poo - while going back to go back to some road-side tapri to have dinner (with a huge frowning face) I saw the gates of Mainland China just before my eyes! and lo - I had to had to had to have the food there and no where lesser than it! S was reluctant first, but he knows my love for food - so there we go! To mainland China. With only a few mins of waiting, we were ushered inside to a nicely set 2 seated table in a wonderful abiance with calm and serene (read rich) people. And on that table for 2 decorated with nice leather table mats and a bowl of water with a floating, fresh orchid in it. Ah, that definiteky meant wonderful for a person like me who usually goes out to enjoy the food rather than the surrounding! Type : - as you can guess, Chinese. if you are looking for some Indianised Chinese that you have become used to, then you are in for a surprise, they do not have that style but ofcourse, I am no one to guess if it is really authentic or modified only a bit to suit the Indian taste-buds. What we ordered : Lemon Coriander soup - good Veg manchurian - lip smackingly good! A knight something (mocktail) - good Main course I think was called Pan noodels - this has noodles + veggies - very good Ended the meal with a desert of honey noodles with ice-cream - the honey noodle was a bit sweet for my taste but they were amazingly good with the ice-cream! The ambiance - very good (like mentioned above) The food quality - You pay weel to eat well. The quality is very good without being said! And I ordered a veg manchurian here and was bit surprised with the raised eye-brow of teh captain.. ok they may not be serving here the machurain, but he undersatood what i wanted and got it. Then when the bill arrived, that when I got that the machurians are called somrthing else all together - some dumpling of some sort. The service - Good Pricing - Well, this does come in the classy lot so, after the fantastic meal here, we were billed around 1000 for 2. Extras : - you can eat with chop-sticks if you like! - jasmine tea - on the house (its a very very very mild black tea with a strong flavour of jasmine) served in chinese styled cups and saucers VERDICT : All in all a wonderful experience, it might nott be possible got all to frequently visit this place, but it definitely stricked to me as a place where one should visit atleast once! P.S : If anyone knows what happened to Bombay Brassarie at DPRoad, please let me know
