    Hi friends,
Don't be fooled by this title. And I don't have that knowledge to give recipes! Still learning!
This title is to let me know what are recipes you would follow at this time and give me your tips and so that i can follow it accordingly!

I hope you all know that Halloween went off well in USA.
We discussing various means to dispose off the candies the children get from those treats. i read in an article that you can donate those candies to the charity institutions or keep it in the mail box for the mail-carrier:idea:
But what about those pumpkins which were bought as a decoration?
In stores you will find more pumpkin pies, these days.
but what do you do at home with the pumpkins?
Usually we buy the big orange pumpkins and i cut it into desired pieces and keep it in the freezer for later use.

I usually make curry, kootu, sambar, masiyal, thogaiyal, morkuzhambu, pachadi and of course, pumpkin halwa.
As Deepavali comes during this time halwa is the best.

With pumpkin seed you can roast it in the oven and have it as a snack.
but i don't have that kind of patience, i usually take those seeds out, wash it and give it to my American friend, which she and her family loves most!

    waiting for your responses......

    Dear Suji,
Just cut it into pieces and you can use it for further use, in the freezer.
As Deepavali is nearing , you can use the major portion of it in making 'pumpkin halwa'.

    Dear Srini,

I also make pumpkin halwa and love it in sambars :crazy. Pumpkins are storehouses of Beta carotene. I sprinkle the seeds in my patio for the birds and squirrels...... letting them enjoy Halloween too.

    hai friends,
here is a bengali dish u can make out of pumpkin,
    pumpkin 1/2 kg
    3 to 4 onions chopped
green chilles 4 to 5 or as desired u need to test this because many pumkins are sweet,
    turmeric,salt,hing a little..
in a kadai heat oil and put mustard once it splutter, put the onions and fry until it is transparent then add the pumpkin and the chillies and sprinkle with turmeric, salt hing and fry these together untill done, no garnishing here, if you want a south flavor use kadi patha, and this is very good dish to eat with rice, or as a kari for sambhar rice...sunkan

cut pumpkin in to eatables size and mark on either side lengthwise with a knife and alternate on the other side a little further.. now marinate this is all your fav taste, even simple turmeric, salt and red chillie powder would do , and deep fry or grill it in oven...sunkan

    hi sriniketan,

Pumpkin...i am trying to imagine..your plight if you are asking for recipes...
it is a kind of love or hate vegetable right....

you can make a gravy of pumpkin with double beans(the combo tastes good..) with spices,in a tomato base...goes well with hot rice/chappathis..

how come the great pumpkin thogaiyal is missing...just like chow chow, you can saute it till the moisture is gone and make a thogaiyal.. and for longer shelf life ...after tempering just saute the thogaiyal also in the same....(am i confusing.. ...)

you can make a pumpkin and potato dry subji courtesy tarla dalal..but it is kind of sweet..but if you like the taste try it...

regarding, the seeds, dry it peel it, and roast..it they taste yummy....

    Hope it is useful....

Welcome Oh Great Pumpkin a la Charlie Brown!!

Sri, try pumpkin soup simply delish

But other than that the usual kootu etc... is what i do too. This year my pumpkins have turned green,i think the weather did not agree with them  ( anyway we had a few good jack o lanterns) . So its all in the trash now.

    Vandhana

PS carving the pumpkins and leaving them to face mother nature, hastens their demise

    Thanks for the recipes, Sunkan.
I will try it. but the pumpkins here are not at all sweet.
only sweet potato--'sarkarai valli kizhangu' is sweet and other squash like varities are sweet.

    Hi Shanthi,
My children don't like the pumpkin at all. but they like it only in the morkuzambu and thogaiyal.
Does that gravy with pumpkin goes with any beans as i think we don't get double beans here!
I think you are talking about 'thokku' right?
Going to try the 'sweet sabji'.
I usually give the seeds to our american friend who loves it!
    thanks for the ideas, Shanthi!
