Hi, one of my cousin's hubby is planning to migrate to Canada with my cousin n children. They are healthy n in their thirties (her dh too I think).

They have gotten some money from a property share. Her husband says it's only difficult to get a job, so they want to open a small business there n settle. She knows no one there but her dh seems to be very interested to do this.

    My questions:
How much money would they need to migrate, set up home n business n live ?

Can they really just go n start a business just like that? Or would they special visas?

Which city is better for indian families ?

She's a social person, can she actually make good friends there n how?

Her kids are in good schools here, would she be able to afford that there?

What are the pros n cons of leaving back the family n friends n starting new in Canada?

Is this really a good idea ?

Any migration story will help her too. Please share.

Her hubby will be fine anywhere but I am a little worried about my cousin!!

I think they have to apply for PR or specific visa for entrepreneurs. Please check with Canada immigration online.

I am not a resident of Canada, but I found this link for ppl wanting to migrate for business / intend to start business, considering the cousin may want to start a business.

How can I come to Canada as a business immigrant?

Are they moving from India? This might be a good generic link to check:

How to Immigrate to Canada from India?

There are number of blogs online depending on which country they are migrating from. Those specific scenarios might be more helpful for relevant feedback & procedures.

I am really hoping people here from Canada respond to this question considering @ashneys is always ready to help others & gives thorough, well thought responses to everyone:smile: for once ppl , she has a question!

    Lol! Thanq @Naari !

Ya they are moving from India. N Canada's winters are something to think about too.

I keep reading stories about how lonely they feel when they move to USA, so wondering if my cousin could have a good life n be able to socialise as well.

How expensive is it to hire help there ? Do you get part time helpers in the USA to clean house ?

Life in US can get boring and monotonous. But, if your cousin learns driving and pursue her hobbies then Sky the limit. She also has kids so plenty of activities to do with kids. She can find community association like Hindi manch, marathi mandal, telugu, Kanadda kuta etc. and get involved in their programs. She can also volunteer with NGO's.

Winters are harsh in US and Canada. Sun sets at around 3.30 or 4 in the evening and can get depressing and or boring. But you will overcome it. It took me 2 years. All the socializing happens on weekends starting Friday night through Sunday.

Unfortunately, maids here come with a price tag. Going rate here in Boston area is 75 USD per hour. So everybody in the household husband included has to pitch in the chores. If her DH is not used to do 'aurat wale kaam' he better start doing these in India too.

One thing I really liked here is quality of life. Hassle free travelling, no red-tape bureaucracy, no one interested in your personal life (read sneaky neighbors) and lot of individual space.

Canadian provinces compete to get immigrants. The higher the number of residents, the better the federal revenue share, and every new head counts to getting more representation in the parliament.
    Here is information from Halifax...
    Starting a business | NSOI
Cold in Canada is no different than cold in Chicago, or even Memphis, TN, during those el Niño years.
The Nova Scotia info will be an exercise the prospective immigrants can do, and see which province they want to go to. It is a lot easier to go as a student, especially for those <40 people, get those feet wet, and then see how to transition into a business.

    Life in USA was monotonous
Ironically for me in bay area where otherwise it is a happening place. We didn't have car then (most of the days). But after a gap ,here iam into volunteering and iam learning painting and clay work ,though it is a small suburban area this place is happening for me. So it depends . with in 10 months I had different experience in different cities. But out of all I started to like USA more now as it has given me opportunity to grow independent and helped in developing me with volunteering work, beating the boredom with hearing self development speech.

Thanq @Nonya , good to know about the head count competition.

Studies maybe difficult, but business in an unknown country is also like testing the waters without knowing how deep.

Is it really that difficult to get a job ? Immigration Sites makes it look like it's very much possible.
He's working in some entry/ mid level job in bank, not sure about the level.

If they are opening their doors for migration, that does mean that they should have opportunities too right ?
