    Hi,
Have anybody gone through your pregnancy without taking any medicines or food supplements?
Doctors just give the medicinal supplements for all pregnant ladies irrespective of their requirement.
I do not want to take any tablets for folic acid, iron, vitamins etc, but to take naturally from food..
    Will it be possible?
    Love,
    Pavi

    Congratulations of your pregnancy dear!!

I agree, it is sometimes irritating to take medicines for every single thing, esp during pregnancy.. :bonkBut we must also understand that our body requires extra supplements now more importantly than any other time. That is why the doctors prescribe these. If you are very much against the tablets, then you must very diligently plan out your daily diet so that you dont miss out any of these vital supplements.

Please don't ignore folic acid, atleast in early pregnancy. It is very very important to control any birth defects. Regarding other supplements your OB/Gyn is the best person to decide what you need/don't need. Talk to her about it, and let her know your preferences.

All the best and good luck! :thumbsup

prenatal vitamins are actually meant for you...as baby would take up all the nutrients and you would be deprived of those .

it is really difficult to plan a well balanced diet with all the vitamins and minerals included daily.

also the iron that we get from food is not well absorbed ...
only the form of iron supplied with prenatal s is easily absorbed .
similarly there are some foods that reduce absorption of some vitamins and nutrients , which we would not be aware of .
so why take a chance and regret later .
there is no harm in taking these ....

i wanted to know ... if you plan a balanced nutritious diet .... how would it be ?
can you give us a sample of your diet you are planning to take daily if you dont take prenatal vitamins

See these are VITAMINS not medicines.. Ladies who are trying for a baby are advised to start taking the VITAMINS at-least 3 months before they concieve.. this is to make sure the body is full of good vitamins that the baby needs .. Once the baby is conceived they baby starts TAKING the vitamins from the mothers body.. SO in the long run these vitamins are going to be good for YOU.. as the baby is going to leave YOU with nothing & YOU may end up having problem in old age..

You can have the vitamins in the food.. however it is not enough.. HOW MUCH FOOD ARE YOU GOING TO EAT EVERYDAY ?? to try and get all the vitamins you will have to eat ALOT of food & you will end up overweight.. and in-case you dont get enough vitamins from food and the baby is suffering from lack of vitamins what will you do? will you have a answer, when doctor will ask why you didnt take vitamins to help the baby??

Its a personal decision - however I wouldnt ignore the importance of taking the vitamins..

    kpavi,
I know it is a hassle to take all these tablets/ capsules, etc etc. Anyone in your place would have preferred taking in all the essentials from natural sources. But the problem is our natural sources like vegetables, fruits, fish, meat, etc are so depleted of the nutrients themselves due to the various chemical processes they undergo that by the time they reach our dining tables, their value becomes almost negligible.

If you consider eating only kosher/ organic foods still the amount of essentials that the baby derives from the mother's body, the amount that is utilized in sustaining the challenges of pregnancy and delivery can not be easily replaced through natural sources. We will have to eat very large portions of food (practically impossible) to make up for all the loss.

So isn't it better to take the supplements in time?

If you tend to forget the schedule then please set reminders on your phone.
