    Anita, whats the base you u use for oil painting..?
    when I google about oil painting, I feel like I read greek and lattin...THey are talking about medium,front part,back part blah blahs..is oil painting difficult to do..?Dont look me weird like this, because as you know I have my limited time in my hands so if I try anything it should be worth.:hide: As of now, I cant do any trial and errors as I cant spare much time.Thats why I am asking.Hope you understand.I want to paint one wall hanging for my new nest(recently we purchased a house).Please do help in this regard.

    Prana,
    I am a self taught artist. So I migh not know much. But I will tell you what I usually do. Been some time since I painted. So trying to recollect :)

    1. I usually buy canvas that is prepped and stretched already.

    2. Then I prime the canvas with "gesso". You can buy gesso in white or black. It actually helps make the surface of the canvas smoother. Once the gesso is dry, you can start painting.

    3. Then I apply the base coat with oil paint that is diluted with linseed oil. The color can be blue if it the sky or sea area, green if it is going to be a lawn, brown for desert or mountains etc...... More like you are blocking the areas on the canvas with the color.

    4. Once this dries a bit, you start painting and forming shapes and details.

    5. Turpentine is used to wash brushes.

    6. Once the painting is complete and it is dried, a layer if varnish is applies to protect the paint.

    Do not, I repeat do not forget to write your name before you apply varnish :biggrin2:
