    Ever since I retired,
I found it difficult to have an afternoon nap which I was dreaming of all along. The door bell kept ringing every few minutes. A stream of vendors descended into the apartment complex for door to door marketing..
Hence I hung a ‘Do not disturb’ board, made out of cardboard outside my flat, in the after noon. Yet the bell rang the next day. Someone wanted to know what it meant.
As a pre-emptive measure, I enlarged the scope of the board to include Hindi, Bengali, Oriya and Punjabi versions as ours was a cosmopolitan society.
The next afternoon the bell rang: a salesman was there.
“Sir, why this ugly handwritten board?
Here I have a beautiful plastic foldable board, with the message printed in all Indian languages for just ₹250 Sir.
I bought one and hung it outside my door.
From the next day onwards, there were many callers disturbing my sleep. One by one they came, spoke appreciatively of the board, and wanted to know where the board is available. They too wanted one such.
As the nuisance worsened, I quietly folded and put the board in storage. Still there were callers to enquire what happened to the board, was it stolen?
Nowadays, I do not sleep in the afternoon at all, I have joined the board making company as a salesman and take great pleasure in disturbing people taking an afternoon nap!

:roflmao:Hilarious...you do have a way of turning a serious topic from start into ...this. Hilarious, but, this is what we women , all home makers do, except the selling display cards part.

Afternoon nap has become a luxury for me. I am on diuretics to prevent water retention in the heart. This starts working overtime around 2.30 pm. I therefore lie down after 2.30 pm and that is when Amazon.Big basket and Blinket chaps are on the prowl. There are people at home to take delivery but the sound of the door bell is enough to keep one awake. After trial and error I have found 12 noon to 1 PM to be the best time for a siesta. After lunch I start thinking about what I have missed reporting in IL apart from watching TV news. I don't watch movies which I have unfortunately not cultivated. One of my senior friends can keep himself engaged with movies for hours together.I have requested my daughter to encourage her husband[approaching retirement age] to watch movies lest his attention is diverted to Housekeeping.
    Regards/SLN

Hilarious! :grinning: I wish I received such forwards in my whatsapp instead of the inane messages I see. This would make such a lovely short film or even an ad.

It brings to mind an old saying about the types of guests who come to a house:
    खाने के टाइम पे मेहमान आते, (khaane ke time pe mehman aate)
    सोने के टाइम पे शैतान (sone ke time pe shaitan)
    Guests come at meal times
    Devils come at nap times

I have my own battles with the "Do Not Disturb" albeit not the sign but on my phone. I am still not able to figure out how to exclude a few numbers and contacts from the Do Not Disturb.

@Cheeniya sir that's hilarious. You have the knack of finding the most interesting shares that turn the most mundane events into something so humorous. I do miss the constant ebb and flow of service persons and sales people in and out of apartment.

@sln sir, same case with my dad. He has to take diuretics for his heart. Because of this, he starts his nap at 3pm and puts a hard stop by 4pm . But within that one hour, grandchildren come to use toilet in his room even though we have other toilets (their reasoning is thathas toilet is cleanest), to show something off from school that they got etc. in short, it's almost never a continuous hour nap for him :roflmao:. But he doesn't mind and I don't mind too because it's a good way to bond with the grandkids.

    Dear @sln
I don't have a nap after lunch. I am very proud of this! I just sit in my sofa watching TV or reading something or the other. While doing that, I may doze off for a while. But my wife keeps telling me that the shapes I curl myself into during my short naps make me look like a circus artist. She says she even gets worried if I could ever untangle myself and regain my original shape on waking up from my short nap!
