A demat account enables you to hold your shares in dematerialized format. Now, share certificates are not issued by any company and if you apply for IPO the shares allotted will be credited to your demat account.

You can open a demat account in any of the broking houses like India Infoline, Angel Broking etc. Let me know if you plan to open one.

How did you manage to open an account with a nationalized bank without an address proof? If you have changed your address after opening the account then you need to update them with your new address by submitting the new address proof. If you do not have an address proof talk to you banker and I am sure they will help you out.

It would be helpful if you can suggest what are the factors to be considered for Life insurance & for investments like mutual investments & other investments.Most of the cases we believe whatever the agent says I really dont know how to check what would be end return from each policy.I go with the statements what the agent has & not with actual end return.If there is any calculation do share.

You can look at investing systematically in the following funds:

HDFC Top 200 (growth)

HDFC Equity (growth)

DSP Black Rock Equity (growth)

DSP Black Rock Top 100 (growth)

All of the above are diversified equity mutual funds and 10 years return is more than 20% per year.

Factors to be considered for taking life insurance:

Determine whether you need insurance or not. If you don’t have any dependents and will not have any dependents in future also you do not need insurance.

Find out your human life value and then take appropriate life cover.

Compare various other covers you can take as riders with your original policy like accidental death benefit, permanent disability insurance, critical illness cover etc.

Don’t go for the cheapest policy as cheapest is always not the best.

Don’t mix insurance with investment. Always take a term plan.

Factors to be considered for making any investment:

Any investment you make should be to achieve an accumulation goal i.e. buying a car, house, paying for kid’s education, kid’s marriage, you retirement, vacation abroad etc. An investment without a goal will not purpose as you will not know how to use the money you get from your investment.

After you decide the purpose of your investment you need to decide which instrument to invest in depending on the time you have to achieve the goal. If the goal is more than 5 years away you should go for 80% equities and 20%debt or go for a balanced mutual fund.

You can also chose where to invest based on the return you expect from your investment.

Your investment should give you flexibility i.e. it should be easy to enter and easy to exit

You should also check the charges for making investment and also the tax implications.

Liquidity of your investment is also important i.e. you should be able to convert your non cash assets to cash with ease.

Now regarding the returns from insurance policy, In <st1lace w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">India</st1:country-region></st1lace> the insurance regulator i.e. IRDA has made it compulsory for all the insurance companies to show return @6% p.a. and @10% p.a. Even the agent doesn’t know how much you will get at maturity and what he tells you is the amount mentioned in the sales illustration at higher rate i.e. @10% p.a. but what is easier to calculate for him is his commission which he can do with perfection.

Hi,
I cam to know that this year there is an additional 20,000/- investment you can declare to get tax benefit (which is over and above of the 1 lakh cap declaration available till last year).

Is anybody aware of what are infrastructure bonds and which one is better to invest?

Hi ~S,

The details about this is still not clear so you will have to wait and watch. You can buy infrastructure bonds from ICICI and IDBI.

You also get and additional exemption of 10,000 over ,1 lakh + 20k infrastructure bonds, if you are paying for a medical insurance premium.

I know you have answered this question for other poster however my scenario is a bit diff. so wanted to ask again. I am NRI in US and I would want to invest some amount per month in India..what are the good options?? period for which I can keep the money locked down are flexible i.e either 3yrs, 5yrs or 7yrs not more than 7yrs. Amount want to invest not to exceed 10K rupees per month. We do have other payments like home loan etc in India.but this one I want to start separately. i have seen a savings options in IPO below is the link please let me know your view on this one

Hey,
Thanks for your reply! Do you want to say that the exemption (on this additional 20,000/- investment) is still not confirmed :idea This was officially notified to us via our company's payroll department....so, i was considering this as an authentic information...

BTW, what is infrastructure bond? Any idea?

my brother is 26 yrs old. he is working in Journalism field.he is not yet put money in insurance and any investments. i told him insu. is must. he can save money rs.3000 pm. is any insur. cum invest. policy is avail. for tat amt???

What can he do in next reg insu . and any savings???? pls advice me......
