i read all your posts this is the first one i am replying to. very beautiful and well written post coming straight from ur heart. my personal opinion is, if you have to work, it is better to take the kids out of home and leave them at a licensed day care/child care centre instead of letting ayahs stay at home with the kids. that way the kids are with other kids and the people handling them are trained and do age appropriate activities with them.

Thats right shyamals, you have made a valid point.Only thing is thre are parents who leave their kids in DayCare centreseven if tey have cold, running nose, fever etc.Other chilren are exposed to that.My SIS had first hand experience ,but if there are Daycare centres that take absolutely good care of the kids ,that would be a better choice.

    My dear Mithila mami,

    Your post echos my thoughts.
When our first son was born I quit working, because of all that you have mentioned in your post and also I couldn't bear the thought of the child falling or getting hurt, crying and running to the maid! I wanted to be the one he would want. Stayed home for 8 years till the younger one too went to full day school. It was very, very tough on a single salary. I lost all my seniority when I joined back. My students became my bosses. My batchmates and colleagues thought me crazy. But I have no regrets. I feel my decision to stay home was right.
I honestly believe our sons' bonding with us is because of the time that I have spent with them. I can proudly say that their every need was taken care of only by us. NEVER by a maid or ayah.
They are both confidant, independant, caring young men happy to talk and discuss their heartaches, failures, joys and sorrows with us.

    Love,
    Usha

    My dear dear usha,
you did a very sensible thing by opting to take care of your children when they were small.

I can proudly say that their every need was taken care of only by us. NEVER by a maid or ayah.
They are both confidant, independant, caring young men happy to talk and discuss their heartaches, failures, joys and sorrows with us.

These words of yours speak volumes about your role as parents in their lives.
    Great!
    love
