I need some help.. I am really tired of understanding the medical system in US.. My sugar levels were high during the initial tests (thats cos I had a really bad diet before getting pregnant), but now they are very much under control.

A 'nurse' referred me to a nutritionist. To see the nutritionist i had to take a 2hour class. Then i meet nutritionist who insists on seeing me often (hint - more visits, more money for her) and also referred me to a endocrinologist (god knows why, cos my numbers have been very much in control since i started my diet)... The way the endo talked to me, i could sense a lot of greediness.. she kept saying i have diabetes and I should understand how serious my condition is..blah blah, all this without even asking what my glucose #s are at present.

Do I have an option to refuse to see the endo specialist? or do I have an option to not see the nutritionist as many times as she demands? They talk like bullies and I am not sure of the rules here in US. They seemed like they want to increase my visits just for money.

BTW my OB said everything was normal, she even said bcos I am controlling my diet cos of sugar, it will be very healthy pregnancy, compared to women who are allowed to eat everything. I had my test results shown to 2 different docs (one OB, one homeopathy) in India, and they said everything was normal.

These greedy goats are spoiling the fun from my pregnancy. Please let me know my options.

    Hello OP,

References are shared as "options" only. It is purely upto, if you want to visit them or not. As long as everything is normal, you do not need to worry about the references.

Be happy & enjoy your pregnancy.

    Cheers,
    JM

Stop going if you don't want to! It is entirely your choice to see the care-giver you choose to. (Or not see someone!) compared to India, you can speak your mind freely and the doctors here know they have no right to push a patient. In fact, i too was diagnosed with GD during my pregnancy and I had to consult a nutritionist and test blood sugar levels. Once the levels returned to normal due to diet control I stopped seeing the nutritionist and even negotiated with my OB and convinced her that I don't need to test everyday! :)

    Hi bayarea320,
Alternatively, If you are not happy with your endo specialist and nutrinitonist, you may request that you want to change your specialist and nutritionist, and ask them to refer to another. This is your right too. I hope that you still are monitoring your blood glucose level at least on a continuous basis, just to be on the safe side.

Why don't you get a second opinion here in the US to ease of your mind? On the other hand, if you don't feel the need to go to those greedy goats, don't go! You were referred to an endocrinologist because the referrer was under the impression that you have Diabetes. You know that most of the Endos in the US mainly treat Diabetes and I agree they are pretty scary. What I don't understand is why does this Nutritionist want to see you on a regular basis. Did she give you any diet plan to follow? One of my friends had GD during pregnancy and all she got was a diet plan so she used to measure/weigh everything she eat.

    hi,
i am also diagnosed with gd and was referred to a diabetes center to consult a diabetician... but when they called me i asked if it was mandatory, and when she told me it was purely my wish... i said i dont want to take the sessiontsk...i controlled my numbers with diet at home... as long as ur numbers don get too much elevated your safe.... if you are under 140 ,2 hours postmeal means you are normal... so no worries stop going if u feel they r doing it for money and enjoi your pregnancy... good luck...:thumbsup
