Veteran playback singer P B Srinivas died on Sunday in Chennai following a brief illness. He was 82. Srinivas, known in the film industry and to fans as PBS, has sung hundreds of songs for Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam films. He was best known as the voice of Tamil star Gemini Ganesan and Kannada superstar Rajkumar. Srinivas was unwell for the past few days and breathed his last at his CIT Nagar residence, his family said. Srinivas is survived by two sons and daughter. A Kalaimamani award winner, Srinivas was known for his soft, romantic voice and some of his hits in Tamil include 'Kaalangalil Aval Vasantham' and 'Mayakkama Thayakkama'. He worked closely with lyricists Vaali and Kannadasan. A native of Andhra Pradesh, his last song was in Tamil film 'Ayirathil Oruvan' in 2010.
