Lakshmi am glad you liked the topic of the thread!:thumbsup . Yep parent can be the guardian and open a savings a/c for minors like kids. good thought!!
I did not have a piggy bank growing up, probably because I never got an allowance. My parents taught me to save money but not in any overt way. I was shown money management through the discussions the whole family had about whether or not we really needed to buy something, or discuss when we could afford a toy, in the research we did to find where we could get good deals etc. DS recently got a piggy bank as a gift and I am probably going to re-gift it discreetly. I want to teach him about money management the same way I learned. Or we could use it as a hundi for collecting money we want to give to a temple or charity - that might be nice.
Hi, We have a piggy bank for DS and we collect all coins in it. We told him once it is full, He can buy a gift with that.
Hi, Very nice thread... I too do collect changes and keep them in a box but rarely do I use them I do get very happy to see the amount I collected....I hope to use them for some good cause....
My mom used to put in some amount every month in a piggy bank kept near god just for temple visits.Whenever we go visit a temple ,we take part or whole amount and spend that.It felt good that it is exclusively for such visits:thumbsup.
Hi, In my school days I had piggy bank (not like a piggy, but like a post box) Whenever I got some money from visiting relatives I used to save in that I used to buy some essential stuff :bonkI can`t recollect what it is. Now I got a piggy bank (it is smiley bank) from India for my DD. She is saving in her bank. Giving the coins to her may be the motivator to behave well. Now she says I want to save big money. My daughter is really proud of her savings in her smiley bank.
Yep its jsut to initiate the habit of saving...to make kids understand what is MONEY!!! I know money is NOT all..but kids also have to know how difficult it is to save or earn money and what is the happiness when they save up and buy something...its like a acheivement
Sweetyep I used to have those mud piggy banks during my childhood days...after it is filled and when we cant put anymroe coins..we used to break it:crazy and count money...it used to make me feel on top of the world..specially when I see that I could save something:ideaanyways compared to my siblings I was always the spender so Ia lways ended up having less than what they had..but still...I like that breaking the bank concept:biglaugh
