I find the internet banking a blessing and I do the following every month: 1. I do a simple monthly budget on excel with all my expenditures listed down and from that, I'll know how much I can save every month 2.I have opened 2 accounts in the same bank, one for my salary to be creditted into and the other for my savings. As soon as my salary in creditted into my account, I transfer the savings amount from my above budget into my savings account. This way, I am forced to follow my budget and manage with whatever remaining. 3. Every time I get a salary raise or bonus, the extra goes into the savings account Paying for all the expenses first and then saving what is left never works for me, I only tend to overspend. I try and follow this diligently every month. Hema
Well, I just got my first salary and was wondering what to do with it [apart from spending on my much desired monsoon wardrobe]... I came across this article on the site of Femina. in which catered to money matters. This article is really informative because it answered women’s queries pertaining to investments, loans, spending habits, etc.. I now have a clear idea on how much exactly to save and how I can wisely spend my money, for example, I could curb my shopping to once in a fortnight which would do me no harm... this thread is really good...got a lot of insights and felt like sharing some of my info too ! Thanks.
Note: This is mainly focused on United States living life style but could be applicable for any place with few exceptions. I have been saving and having a very solid control on my personal finances over a decade using a very famous personal financial management tool named "Quicken" It was mainly tailor made for United States residents but can be used for other countries also(may not be able to use few online updates etc, but budgeting etc are very applicable for any place). Its a great tool with which I manage my US and Indian investments together (supports multiple currencies). At the initial few months of this tool usage, it may feel real boring and disappointing to put together the numbers etc. But once you have crossed that, you would see the fruits for years together.. It manages your taxes and you can do a very well advanced tax planning too.. Try to google it for more details, have a good amount of patience in getting used to it.. then its all automatic.. Good luck
