We went to Palani to have a darshan on Sunday. Monday was the Panguni Uthiram a special day for Muruga devotees. It is believed that to have a darshan on this day is auspicious. On the way from the station to Palani, we can see people walking all the 56-60 kms towards the temple by having different kinds of kaavadi on their heads. There were ladies, gents, youngsters and children. In the hot summer we wondered how they will get the stamina to walk all these distance.

Luckily we got the room in a good hotel and were ready to go to the temple at 8.30 am. In our group half the people climbed up the hill by walking and some of us planned to go by cable car. It took 2 hours to get the cable car. With no space to stand properly and no fan we felt very restless and the children were absolutely unhappy. Finally when we reached up the hill, our walking group already reached and waiting for us there. There was a big cue and there is not a single space without people. There were different cues which they charge different amount. We took the 250 rs cue and started standing in that. The cue will move for about five minutes and stop again. Each and every stop we have to stand still for about 30 minutes.

Like that after 2 hours we reached a place which has absolutely no air circulation. one side is the temple stone wall and other side they put alluminium sheet and in between there was hardly any space to stand. top was covered by some cement ceiling. when we came their it was only 11 o clock in the morning and suddenly the authorities came and pulled the sliders in front of the cue and locked. When asked they said it was Uchai Pooja and it will take one hour. we stood like that. Me, my dil and her mother started telling Shashti Kavacham just to keep our mind towards bhakthi. In between we saw through the grill that some people came out of the temple with some securities and police escorts. when we asked they said again the temple closed for ucha pooja and it will take another one hour. This time some people started shouting as they felt some thing wrong. We started our sloka again which was interrupted becasue of this hungama.

As the time passed the children were uncontrollable and the youngters in the cue also started shouting to open the grill. same time the authorities came and opended the other door and allowed about another 15 people who seems to be some vips. At the same time we heard the announcement through the mike that Ucha pooja is going to start so devotees should be patient for one hour. After hearing this the crowd was mad and everybody shouted at the police who stood behind the grill. The police who assured that the vip s has gone safely inside turned and warned towards us that if we were not quite he will make all of us to go to the station. After hearing this, we all lost concentration on Bhakthi and we too joined others to shout at the police and securities. All these time they have fooled us, made us waiting in the cue while some vips continuously visiting the temple on this auspicious day to get punyam. After all the sufferings when we finally came in front of the garbhagruha, we lost the energy to pray lord muruga. Somehow we finished our dharshan and came out and pulled us out of the crowd and waited for others to join us.

One huge crowd of devotees who danced with kaavady accompanied by nathaswaram and thavil when we enter the cue, were still dancing and singing without any rest.

We were amazed by their Bhakthi and felt ashamed the way we lost our control. Suddenly we remembered that we didnt yet finish our Shloka. We had some cool water and sat in a corner and started telling the sloka from the begining anf felt happy to finish this time without any hindrance.

    Hi!

Lord Muruga must have been testing your bhakthi by placing that VIP there and delaying the pooja. Anyway you finished your prayer with His Grace.
    Enjoyed the post.

    Love,
    Usha

    Wowww

Totally understandable ...I guess standing in cues and waiting for darshan is like testing ones patience :)

Might be god also wants to test our patience and bhakti and how we would react at the end of all the wait

Happy that finally you were able to get the darshan and also complete reciting the sloka

    Ganges,

that was a good picture you painted with your words.
Tirupathi is also the same. of late all temples are the same i think.

the 32 ft anjaneyar in nanganallur has such rush on certain auspicious days. why the malayathoor church looked the same on good friday.

people do not feel the pain when they wait to have a glimpse of the deity in the sanctum.

but the queues and some more queues at the bus stop, ration shops and other places totally zaps you out.
recently been at the passport office one and it left me cursing govt. offices...

    Dear Ganges,

Yes...Yes...yes...u sometimes feel frsutrated when u stand in the queque for long time and the VIPs/MLAs come and have darshan immediately. But do not worry but the prasadam we get is much better than them. May be they would have done some good karma in the past life.

Thankyou Shanvi. Yes dear. But the temples in Tamil nadu, the system is too bad. If any political leader or vip comes the authorities will treat the ordinary public very cheap. How much crowd is there at guruvayur, we never felt such partiality. Thriuppathy also they provided maximum infrastructure with the money they are getting from us like fan, loo facility, in between seating arrangement etc. TN temple systems are very bad. But they are getting money from us. Malayattoor palli I too went once with my club friends on an ordinary day. even then there was a reasonable cfrowd. What a peaceful atmosphere na ? thank you dear.
