Hi Ladies, I was wondering if any one could help me with some info. I want to know how much would be the approx price for pattu pavadai. I heard that they sell already cut cloth pieces in sizes 60 cm and 90 cm in stores. they are not the real kancheepuram silk but regular kind. i want to buy a few pcs to give for diwali. how much it would cost to stitch? And also where is Nalli in bangalore and how many showrooms are there and which part of bangalore. Thanks a lot!!
Dear Chaaral... PattuPavadais are available in bangalore.... are you looking for silk pavadais are normal pavadai??...i mean you get variety of pavadai sattais in almost all textile shops in bangalore nowadays.... but if you are looking for pavadai bits(not silk),you cant get them everywhre...it ranges from 600Rs i believe... i personally have not bought pattuPavadais for my DD from bangalore,we get from chennai...i mean the silk ones...other than silk,i have bought few traditional ones here... Coming to nalli's location... i believe there are 2-3 here in bangalore...malleshwaram and jayanagar...but i personally have not visited them...you can check out their website to get the address
Thankyou Swaran for the quick reply. The pavadai looks like traditional ones but theyare not real silk types just the cheaper ones. I am sure the real silk ones would cost more than thousand rupees. but I am looking for look likes pattu the top and pavadai is of the same material ( the material looks like pattu) Apart from pattu what other kind of pavadais are available? i have no clue. thanks a lot.
You can get cotton pavadai with zari border, silk-cotton mix pavadai with zari broder. Both of these varities are available readymade. You get pavadai sets in silk. In Deepam, once i got silk materialswhich you can buy by length. They also sell zari borders. So you can mix and match.
How much would it cost? yeah someone said that they sell only 2 sizes like 60 and 90 cms. not sure abt it. But thanks so much for the info. How much does it cost to stitch a pavadai( without lining) and the sattai (with lining). Thanks!
You will get it from new born size to about 15-16 yrs age group. I purchased for my daughter in commercial street. Our tailor charges Rs.280 for stitching with lining. I give him the lining material. He says he charges more because i give him different models for the top.
Dear chaaral, I believe you have got your replies... just few things from my side....... There are many semi silk/silk cotton ready made paavadai sattais with zari borders with small glitters, kundans and decorations available for even 6 month old baby...i believe the starting rate is 250Rs...i have bought similar ones for my daughter...and received 2-3 pavadais from my neighbours as well as gift.... these pavadais i believe are available for kids <12years....you can try...these look very nice...though not silk other than this, you can get the polyster kind of material and you can stitch it...tailors are charging 200Rs minimum to stitch any normal pavadai sattais for kids.... other than this i have also tried this one....once i had few blouse bits(the floral kind of silk cotton blouse bits which i bought for my silk sarees) but i dint use...dint know what to do...so i bought a matching blouse bit piece of golden colour plain one(basically a contrasting material) and gave for stitching...so it was like a single cream coloured zari pattu pavadai with 2 different coloured tops....i have stiched 2 pavadai sattais for my DD like this...made few decorations with kundans, small hanging kundans etc...you can try this too....it looked cutee
Thankyou Amihere, Orion and Swaran. Swaran, the silk cotton with kundan work sounds very nice. Any recommendations for store names? so it would be easy to go and get it. My mom got some blouse bits stitched into pavadai but the tailor messed up with the measurement. next time i have to give a pattern or correct measurements for that. even that looks great. Mommy and me type of saree and pavadai will look cute. I am so happy that i have a girl ;-)) Thanks everyone!!
i really liked your last but one sentence ....i too feel the same always :-D i generally have not bought the pavadai in the same shop all the time...basically nowadays i find such pavadais almost in all dress shops...so you can try near your place... yeah while stitching first time (i mean the first time we are giving our kid's dress to a new tailor),its best that we take go our kid for giving measurement...i have had bad experiences when i tried to give my kid's exisiting dress for measurements.. :-(... so next time ,make sure you take your kid along for the measurements and also have the pattern ready.,....because if you ask them to decide or say "stitch some trendy design",they simply nod the head and atlast you ll get to have the usual pavadai sattai pattern....thats my personal experience as well... All the best!!!!!!!
