    Hi all,
I am working on a Tanjore painting. There is an area where I have put muck to a height of 3-4 mm. When the muck dries up, it cracks and comes off. I have tried 5 times with different chalk powder, gum, consistency...no luck. Pls advise. Thank you!

    Hi,

looks like you are trying to get a super embossed effect, try in different consequent levels with the normal paste.

Thanks for your reply. I had tried that. But when the 2nd layer dries, it brought out the 1st layer too... Finally I used fevicol
    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
But when the 2nd layer dried, it brought out the 1st layer also, meaning both layers came off...
Finally what has worked for me is a thick paste made of fevicol-marble dust-chalk powder. There were thin cracks but it did not come off. I put slightly liquid paste as above and patched it.

Ok, good...but if it cracks even before the start of the painting, what will be its life after you finish and may be sell it, lets assume..or even have it at home...? Did you consider if it cracks later the gold foil over it can also break up exposing the base...cracks are perfect bredding fround for insects, and what not.
