Paintings : Different Types of Paintings:: Queries

Hi artists/art lovers,

I will be grateful if one of you can help me in identifying a painting. I saw a picture in a glossy magazine many years ago, and somehow forgot the name.

I am quite sure it is by an Indian artist with a Western name (like Dsouza). It is the picture of a young boy, a brahmin boy wearing a thread and standing in a temple. It is very stark and striking, powerful in its simplicity.

I wish to buy a print of this. Pls get back to me with the name.

From your description of the painting i infer that the artist is Anjolie Ela Menon.
She did a brahmin series in late 1980s - stark, stunning, figurative paintings of lonely young brahmins( thread, veshti, kudumi), vacant eyed and pensive, standing by bare walls or ancient doorways. Anjolie was much celebrated for her clean flowing lines and total absence of decorative flourishes.
Souza's figures were more abstract and robust.

Thank you for the valuable tip off. I am almost certain that you have led me to the right painting. I checked out Anjolie's online gallery and from the figures I see there, I am quite convinced. I could not find her Brahmin series, let me look further. I did find another one by Anjolie, 'The Pujari's House' which I hope to buy first (affordable reprint). Thanks again, I have been looking for this for years now.

Hi everyone

I need some help from u all about glass painting which can be painted on glasses.(drinking). Pl pl i need good advises from u all as there is a competition tomorrow in my daughters school.

hi sudha,

Just get those colors that come in tubes by fevicryl for glass painting. depending on the breadth and length choose a design..you c ould choose simple flower on a long stalk with leaves...even a small mickey or a minnie.....

thanks for u r kind response and immediate reply. I expected 100% reply from u as always if i need any advise or suggestion, the first post will always be yours. Yah i follow as per u r adivse and now I am going to stationery to bring some books reg which I can refer some designs.

Is there any attachment files from which I could see some designs in this forum directly.

hi sudha,

You can look in the fabric paintings some threads have some nice pictures...even il anooch has put one embroidery pattern in a doc file..in the embroidery thread...you could modify that also...

dear sudha
here we get glass paint in regular craft stores. i have used these
you can paint any design on glass and then place in oven as per
instructions. then these glasses can be used regular and can also be washed etc
hope i helped best places to ask this will be at the local craft stores.

Hi sudha,

saw this thread today only.

How was the competition?

U get stain glass paints & u can straight away apply on any glass outline is done with ouliner.

My daughter has done lot of stain glass painting.
