    Dears,

We are thankful to our Dear Krithika .... took her write up as our guidance (for dos and don'ts) . It made us very comfortable and we were reminding her words thoroughout our trip. Thought... it is right to dedicate this write-up to her. :cheers

We went to the Niagara Falls this weekend-Surprise treat from my hubby !!! We were in thoughts, whether to go or not... due to hurricane Hanna. But somehow, made our minds and started our trip. We had to take two flights to reach Niagara falls..... Baltimore to Cleveland and Cleveland to Buffalo, a metro bus-route no.210 from the airport ($2 for each) to reach our Hotel-Falls side hotel and conference center , very close (0.5miles) to the falls. For the same distance, cab is charging $80.

We reached the hotel around 2.30 pm and started our trip rightway. We went to the Niagara Falls-Information Centre, got the brochures, tickets, details. It was a clear, bright day, so went first to Maid of the Mist..- A steamer which takes visitors to American falls,Bridal falls and Horse Shoe falls and we were given blue ponchas to cover ourselves, because of wind, force of water... we did get drenched !!!

From there, we went to the Observation tower - It has elevators that take visitors 180 feet up the Niagara river for a view of the American Falls, Rainbow Bridge-US-Canada Connecting bridge. It was nice to see Canada and its huge skyscrapers. After getting down from the Observation tower, we boarded the Niagara Falls Scenic Trolley and enjoyed a ride with the very knowledgeable guide/Driver who narrated the history of the park.

Next, we saw the movie (Adventures of Niagara) in their IMAX theatre. It was very nice with lots of special effects, highlighting many dare-devil attempts by people on the Falls, anectodes about the falls. It was around 7pm, so we decided to have our dinner in Taste of India and relished north-indian dinner buffet. It was good. But, we did not taste the individual items from the menu card. :)

After that, we went to the Prospect point to witness the lighting of the falls . It was a beautiful sight.

The next day, we started bit early and as the climate was bit dump, cloudy, drizzling... decided to go to Cave of the winds - Getting an wonderful/terrific experience of being closer to the waters of Niagara Falls. It was breathtaking... and we were given ponchos and sandals and got into the elevator, which took us 175 feet into the Niagara Gorge. Then, we walked over the wooden walkways to the Hurricane Deck, we felt the power of water, getting doused with the spray from the rushing waters. We touched the falls.... nice experience !

From there, we took the Scenic Trolley and went to Discovery centre - very informative with interactive displays. They had a virtual elevator trip into the gorge, experienced 12,000 years of the Niagara River in the 180° multi-screen theater, or climb a 26-foot rock wall that resembles the walls of the gorge, complete with fossils and geological formations. Different experience !!

We walked to the Aquarium of Niagara - they are having more than 1,500 aquatic animals, representing ecosystems ranging from the Great Lakes to coral reefs. We had an opportunity to witness sea lion shows and penguin feeding. They were really cute and could feel, how much they are pampered ?? We saw some penguins, noding their head to say no , if she is not giving the fish which they want !! Very smart....

We had a close look of the falls from Terrapin point - Located at the end of Goat Island and the edge of the Horseshoe Falls. In the night, we again had our dinner buffet in Taste of India and came back to the Prospect point and witness the Rainbow colours -lighting.

The next day, we took the same metro bus (route no.210) and came to the Buffalo airport and boarded the flight to Newark, the crew was very friendly... they took us around the Niagara by air too (The pilot made two rounds ) , so we could see the glimpse both from American side and the Canadian side. We had 2 hours waiting time in Newark, had Pizza- from Pizzeria for lunch and boarded another flight to Baltimore.

It was a very nice and memorable trip. Very happy to share with you all....

    Dear Gowri,

Glad you had a wonderful time at Niagara and your narration was too good! :)

I feel so elated to know that my write-up was a like a guide for you. That was the main purpose of that thread since many IL'ites had posted many queries about trip to Niagara.

But, why all this dedication (big words)! DrowningI just wanted to share what all information I knew and gathered since it would be easier for others.

All the pictures look colourful and appealing ! Especially the penguin feeding and the seal with ball..they look soooo cute ! We missed the feeding of all animals since we went to the aquarium late in the evening. But it's good you got to cover that too!

WOW, the aerial pictures look so remarkable! It is really fortunate that the pilot made those rounds for you guys...picture edukaradhukkunne round ponna madhiri irukku!:)

Feast to the eyes...narration with pictures!:thumbsup

    Cheers
    Krithika
