It is very difficult for a man to live without his wife, whereas a woman can live without her husband. One neighbour of mine lost her husband one and half years back . She has two daughters and one son. All are married and son is staying abroad. Though the son asks her to come and stay with him, she is not interested as here she keeps herself busy by attending various religious classes. Once in a while she goes and visits her daughters. She did not know anything about banking but now she has learnt everything and handles everything alone. When her husband passed away suddenly, she was not at home, I only saw him first and informed them. So she always tells for me also you should be there. I told her nothing is in our hands. Who knows whether I will be going first or you. Another lady also though she is old stays with her grandson and she also goes for the religious classes.

If we have will power we can lead our life independently .

    dear viji

Thats very true. The woman will adjust for any situation. Gents without wife will find it very difficult to adjust with. My periappa was trapped like that and he used to tell hundred times a day about my periamma. ( when she was alive he dominated her like anything and always found wrong for whatever she did). But he looked after her very well by himself in her bed wridden stage. Nowadays our children are very busy with work and all, so even though they are very affectionate and obedient children, its better to live independantly as long as possible. Nowadays atleast there are facilities like senior citizens township etc etc.

we both are 53 and sixty, and having our own set up at kochi, but I am telling him to have alook at the SC township at coimbatore. It sounds better with lots of aged people around and having all facilities.
thank you viji. It is a very useful thread.

A very practical topic that u have written Viji Aunty.

Very true. Females can manage alone whereas males can't.

Since everyone knows that death of partner is inevitable, if they tune their mind as to how they are going to spend their after years, I think the density of the problem of living alone would be reduced.

For after all, even if no one is there, GOD is there to take care no. He will not leave his child.

    Dear Viji maa

Its really a matter worth planning. As you told women are adjustable by nature. But men could not easily deviate from their usual habits for the sake of living with children.Ganga aunty has made a nice suggestion that is spending old age with so many friends of same age .We can make our last days also wonderful
    Thanks for sharing

    hi viji
you are absolutely right:thumbsup.. i use to say my sibblings taht it wud be better if hubby goes earlier than his wify...coz a man cant live without his partener but somehow she can..every women will say they want to die as sumangaly..but it shows only her selfishness, isnt?here she thinks abt her side only nd not at all abt the betterhalf...if she thinks that what will happen to my DH after me,who will be there to take care of nd to reassure him as i do etc etc i assure you ,then she wont like to go1st...thats the sincerity nd integrity of a woman..just my 2 cents:)....

    Dear Viji
Very true. Life being unpredictable, man or woman, everybody should be mentally prepared to face the worst situation .

It will never do to be totally dependent on the spouse for everything. Women adapt better. Many old fashioned men refuse to learn even to make a cup of tea for themselves. If they lose the wife, they will just sit around grumbling no one else is taking care of them and waste their life in bitterness and self pity. Too bad.

    Dear Viji aunty,

Pardon me Viji for writing to you so late.

You have again given us all a food for thought with this post. My MIL used to say its better that my FIL should pass away before us because she thinks that no one can take care of him and he also cannot do it anything independently. And God listened to her I guess...he passed away some 1.5years back. :-(

I just don't entertain such talks when my DAD talks sometimes about death I just get very emotional....I just cannot fathom living without seeing my parents....or for that matter DH....my DH is pretty much independent. So I always joke with him and say I have go before him because I just cannot live without my sweetie.

    Dear Ganga

Thanks for the first fb and sorry for the delay in replying. I thought yesterday night I will reply but there was some problem in the computer so could not log in. Only by evening my computer was alright after the mechanic made it alright

Good that your Periappa looked after his wife when she was not well. Ya in old age we should be independant and not trouble our children. Me and my husband are also staying separately only and my son is staying nearby only and always keeps in touch. Since now a days children are busy wtih their work and come late in the night it will be difficult for senior citizens.

I have also heard about the place in Coimbatore where senior citizens can stay and many facilities are there and they need not bother about anything. People known to us are staying there.

    love
    viji
