organic milk... how long do you use it once opened..

    i switch my son to organic milk (organic valley brand) after i open i saw that its only fresh for 5 days... i know it wont be finished in 5 days but its just a day beyond 5 days i gave him yesterday night but i am curious to know is it okay to use beyond that.. or is there other brand which stays good longer than this period..

    @breeze01, if the carton says that the opened bottle shelf life is 5 days, its always better to stick with it, especially for dairy products.

    rakhi will just follow the days..i tried to get the small cartoon but i couldnt find it... half bottle is going waste..health is main concern... so lets go with the 5 days deal..

    @breeze01, I have been using Organic Valley since a long while. One of the reasons why I love this brand is that the milk will actually go bad even if you refrigerate it beyond a certain date. The milk tastes freshest within 5 days but will stay good for more than that. Try getting a pack from the back of the aisle having longer expiry date.

    I have heard of people freezing milk, I havent done that though.

    unopen packets have two weeks expiration but once we open its only good for 5 days... yes i do look for long expiration dated once, only wish if i can get it in small cartons... that will be very helpful rather than wasting it. on the date it expire we can just make yogurt i guess..

    i also heard people freeze milk.. never did so..

    Make yogurt/kheer/coffee/tea/ice cream...so many options!

    It will depend on the expiry date on the carton how long the freshness will last. I am not saying it will last to the date but if its late in the cycle its going to go bad sooner than if you have a longer time period. Anyway, I don't worry as I just sniff/test. Also location in USA will affect it also as in the NE where we get very fresh milk it lasts longer than say Colorado who ship in every thing.

    Freezing milk works well so that is a really easy solution.

    You might google sour milk cake recipes....easy way to use stuff that is starting to turn.

    OP, do you get a gallon or half a gallon? I buy both. The gallon lasts us about 10 days. My kids have been on this since they turned a year old.I have had no problems so far.

    hi, i am talking about that one after its open...yes i did give him a day after 5 days limit i dont want to give him more so i wasted it...
