I have not clock-checked that. But it does not seem to. In the use of such heat diffusers, the cook should be very careful in the lifting or moving of the pot when a very hot copper plate is sitting loose on the burner grate. She cannot let it fall down off its perch. On her foot, on the floor etc.. Heat diffusers should not be used in homes where there are children. If there is an option to use back burners, that would be more safe.
And I forgot to mention this previously: I do not particularly like the OPOS shortcuts. Sequencing, timing of adding individual ingredients, observing how things transform, as well as presenting the eventual dish that does not look like a community-stew are all quite important. Unfortunately all that makes desi cookery somewhat labour intensive. And makes OPOS a painful compromise for working women (and men). When you have the time for cooking, OPOS is not the way to do it.
