I am extremely happy that you draw kolam that too using rice flour...i am not profound with that.. but will do it in future when i find time...

Dots/freehand,it doesnt matter...just keep trying...
you know i never had the guts to draw even a small freehand kolam 2 years back and always stick with dotted kolams...it is only then i decided that this cant move like this,searched for small patterns and started to draw...
only after getting a little grip(i can never say perfect) of the freehand ones,i made an attemtp on padi kolam...
so just pick some small patterns of freehand and try it..and dont forget to show us too ;-)

and my DD has recently joined my mom to put some rangolis...same like you, even I don't discourage her even if the pattern doesn't make sense....i like to encourage the fact that she is very interested in this at this age, when I am sure I never showed interest in rangolis as a child!!!

unfortunately, my DH has my camera, and for a while I will not be able to take snaps......but atleast I can continue to draw, and once I am in a position to post the pics, will do so here!!!

oh thats not at all a problem dear..if you have share it,if you dont,share it when you get the camera...for now,just post that you had made a kolam today(everyday)...that is more than enough

Thanks for starting this post especially for people who are as lazy as me ( ) to wake up to do this in the morning...!! hehehehe...and I think that I read some more informative stuff about putting rangolis in front of house early in the morning that it has even health benefits, as we can do in the early morning.....am sure I read in IL forum only....

yes we do will keep sharing some information about rangolis too

and very recently, I was searching for designs of rangolis, and came across this one...as I am currently in an apartment and even our neighbor shares the space in front of our house, the situation is such that only small ones can be made...

Here's the link, and I don't remember if I found this from IL or through some google search..and am also not sure if the person who is maintaining this is a part of this forum...if so, I think its a brilliant attempt! It seems to have patterns for all occasions....I was specifically searching for apartment rangolis and found this one...

Good move. I will participate in this thread regularly. I am fond of drawing kolams/Rangoli. We give much importance in our house(both mom home and inlaw home). Everyone in our family love to draw kolam, I have started it at the age of 9. o ur family is joint family with nearly 8 girl children. So we fight to draw big kolams on festival periods. though we have big space we fight for the middle space that is our entrance of house. That's all a sweet memories to remember. I do color kolams well I am glad there are few fans for my marghazi kolam in our street. Even today our neightbourhood auties of my mom's place remember my kolams on special days like diwali, pongal, marghazi (full month 30 days 30 different kolams). My mom called me and proud of me on those occasions. My mom is super in drawing kolams and art work. All my sisters(3) are well in drawing and coloring kolams. My inspiration towards drawing is my elder sister(Kamakshi) who do rehearsal on our terrace before she draw in front of house. She planned her kolam, coloring and pattern well. She is good in sewing and embroidery work. Thank you Swarn for sharing your thoughts here and made me to recollect my golden days with our special lndus Ladies. Please keep posting and I am sure I will in touch with this thread from today.

its lovely to know that you have started to praactise this wonderful art right from your tender age..thats really nice and moreover you have not just stopped with that,you can continuing it and do have fans for your work..thats super cool :thumbsup

Hi Ladies,

I drew a freehand rangoli/kolam(small one) today...i loved the kolam floor today,you know why?
because it had rained so badly yesterday and today the floor was wonderfully washed by the rain..it looked so pleasant and the floor remained wet even when left for office..so the rangoli/kolam looked bright today ;-)

will share the photo once i upload ;-)

dear swaran

nice thread. i am also crazy about rangolis and kolams. i will get kolam powder from mangalore and use it for nearly one year. usually i get kolam powder from mangalore only. daily i used to draw hanumar kreedam and kubera kolam. then if time permits i draw hrudaya kolam. i will upload all the kolams in a day or two.

oh that reminds me! it is mandatory to put kolam near thulasi also. in the pooja room i used to draw kamalam, sanghu, chakram, Krishna s padh, swasthik, a small thulsi madam. sun and moon.

its great to know the efforts you take to draw kolams,i mean you get the powder from mangalore and use it..that is so nice
waiting to see your kolams

we dont have a tulasi madam at home but i have seen my paati drawing a small kolam with rice flour near the tulasi madam daily...
maybe our ladies can help you get answer for this question

Hi,
I was late to wake up today and my mom drew the kolam. It was a 6dot line kolam. unfortunately I am unable to upload it form office. Don't think can do it even from home, as my 8 month old daughter will cling on to me as soon as I enter the house. Will try and upload it in the week end.
@swaran: If I am unable to take picture of the kolam(If I forget to take one, he he) , can I send the picture of the same kolam that is drawn in my note book to show that this was the kolam that was drawn on that day?

Dear Kadalpura,(i always like your username )
its so nice of you to post...keep doing it daily
i can understand how the house would be with a naughty toddler around..
oh please,there is no problem at all...you can show your note as well
it is not a must to share the pics,i just wanted all to post kolams for these reasons
(1)All of us could share our patterns so that we can help mutually and hence could collect more pattern by this way...
(2)This is a kolam thread,so without a kolam,it wont be good;-)
