"mamma, I wany some money. They are asking in the school." said Arundhati
"For what is it, bujji" asked mom.
"I want Rs.150/-. They are taking us to the zoo." said Arundhati.

Arundhati was a shy, two plaited girl with twinkling pair of eyes. She feared the class teacher who was a burly woman of her mother's age. She promptly took the money to be given to her teacher.

After a few days, teacher was reminding the students to bring money, and to Arundhati 's surprise her name was also called. She conveyed to the teacher that she had given money and the teacher disbelievingly looked at her, when Arundhati started to explain where and when she had given the money.
The teacher wanted to hear no more, she dismissed her.

"mamma, the teacher took the money and says I have not given her money"
"Bujji, did you take somebody with you when you had gone to give money ?"
    "No, mamma"

Arundhati's mother had come to school to see the teacher.
"She says she has given money, can you please recheck your collection" -mom
"She didnt give me at all." - teacher
"But, she insists that she gave you." -mom
"Children are lying these days. May be she spent it somewhere." -teacher
    "Children have nasty habits." -teacher
"My daughter wont lie for such things" -mom
"In fact, she doesnt spend, even when i give money for her expenses" - mom

It was no use talking to this lady, she thought.
"Anyways, take this". Mother stuffed the money in teacher's hands.

Mother left the place in rage and she was so angry the whole day.
    she kept on muttering..
"How dare she calls my innocent daughter a liar and talks ill of my daughter"
"After stealing the money, she blames that my daughter has nasty habits"
"She's going to burn in this money"

After a month, in school assembly at the prayer time there was an announcement, that Mrs. Varalakshmi's husband had passed away in a kitchen accident with third degree burns and Mrs.Varalakshmi herself was in a serious condition. This was Arundathi's class teacher.

    In the staff room -
There was so much speculation in the school as how this could happen. Maybe the inlaws had done it. If it was so, how did husband encounter it first then.
    Was it really an accident?
Was is a gas leak or a cylinder burst ?
How much of the house was damaged?
She was such a smart lady, she would have surely checked when the smell was emanating.
What time of the day was it ?
Are there any chances of surviving?
    which hospital was she in?

The following day, news had come that Mrs.Varalakshmi had passed away too and her two sons Varun and Tarun had been orphaned.
Arundhati had informed her mother. Her mother gave her one hundred and fifty rupees.

A few days later, a box was put for raising a fund, for meeting school and tuition expenses of her children.
Arundhati was the first to donate the money.

The curse of a mother goes very far. What do you say ?

    hi anjali

well, the story had a moral here
but i hope it does not happen in real
For the sake of Rs.150/-, I dont want anyone to meet such a fate
I have encountered many such instances
I forgive and forget but take care to be careful next time

    warm regards
    suresh

    Dear Suresh,

This was my telugu teacher. She was very rude and very abusive with kids. My poor mother did not mean it. But she uttered it.

We have seen in many epics once the sage utters a curse in rage, one has to suffer.

I dont think the amount of money matters. It is the her intention.

    Thanks

    Hi Anjali
Your story reminded me of a similar but more crutial incident(involving money and realtion) that happened in my family some time back...since they were relatives, none of us(me,parents) cursed eventhough it caused a hell lot of bitterness to us(can never ever forget that).
But that family is suffering from all sides ever since they dint accept their mistake and blamed us for the same.Their family was very fine untill this issue. It has been 4 years now but serious turmoil(including money and health) is happening at their side
Eventhough people say its their fate or blame the planets for their case,my mind always say its because of the mistake they committed..

    Dear Swaran,

    In telugu it is told

"Raja dandana lekunda yama dandana undadu"

First there will be punishment by king and then by god.
As they say , we have to undergo all our punishments here in earth and then leave the life.

    Thanks

    dear anjali,

a couple of times one of my colleagues at work said something nasty when i fell down and hurt myself and then when i was suffering from constant knee aches, migraine, etc.

the first time, i did not say anything. next day she fell down.

the time she said "how come something keeps happening to you", when i had a migraine i felt very hurt and just said "only when one suffers oneself will one know". i seriously did not mean anything. next day she had a bad shoulder ache and i landed up doing reiki for her. :biglaugh . after that i try not to even think that, in case it hurts anyone even unintentionally. may be there is a grain of truth in the hindi phrase "kisiki hai lag gayi".

    Hello Anjali,

I totally do agree with you that a mother's curse can go this far. But as Suresh sir has commented let it not happen to anyone in real life. I admired the simplcity of your story with an effective message as well.

    Regards,
    Sarasvadivus

    Hi Sarasvadivu,

    Thanks for your appreciation.
    It was too drastic end.

As they say "thadastu devatalu" (gods who grant that our words come true) hover around us.
We should say anything in haste..For it might happen.

    Regards

    Dear Anjali,

It is very sad what happened to the teacher's children. I understand the rage of the mother and what she said was only out of anger and was not actually intending or wishing any harm on the teacher. But the moral of the story is effectively conveyed.

    I like your narration style.

    Akila
