    Dear Bhargavi,
Congrats on getting the DL! :party:party
Really it is a must to get the DL in US. Otherwise you always have to depend on some one. It is more important to have self confidence. My daughter got the DL at Chennai, but her hubby never allows her to drive and she doesn't have self confidence as far as driving is concerned.
    Love,
    Pushpavalli

    Dear Mrs.Pushpavalli,
Thanks for stepping into this thread.
It is true, it gave me self-confidence on the day i got the license. But it vanishes, whenever i make a mistake, hopefully only minor ones. Still DH is accompanying me.

As for as Chennai traffic is concerned--it is scary, for this same reason my cousin who got a license, doesn't want to drive.
Hope, your daughter drives and gain self-confidence in that field too!

Some ladies drive very well. Some may be like me.

After the green signal from traffic department I slowly started driving inside the colony. Once as I took a right turn, i could not manovure the car. Went and hit an Ambassdor car . Luckily it was stationay, But the driver was faast asleep inside. Imagine a maruti hitting an Ambassdor. To top it the car ws brand new. Within few seconds I could hear a shrill from the Ambassdor. I was so scared ,doubled the speed, took right, left about turn and finally reached my block. I slowly called my daughter to find out whether Iam chased. She said"Amma they are after u" just to frighten me. I believed her story to become a fool for the second time.
I think that was my last trial. None of you will find me on the road till I get a vehicle with automatic gear. (You know why? Gear gets stuck at the neutral.) Till then be assured you all will be safe on the road! kanakabonkbonkbonkbonk

    Hi Kanaka,
Drive or practice more, you will gain confidence.
Only through mistakes we all learn, luckily it should be minor, right!
Yours is a minor, and you know how to come out of the scene, that itself tells me that you are a good driver having good judgement at that time.
don't panic, practice a lot, then you will be the :queen

Congrats for getting the licence....I were there in that position last year and I can quite understnad the situation...

But the real deal starts now. I got my driver licence in last october...I didn't take out my car untill december but somehow I got the courage and now I am driving slowly...eventhough I do small mistakes but one day at time I am learning defensive driving.

First thumb of rule I learned in driving is that " don't depend on other drivers......they do mistakes but u shouldn't be affected by their mistakes".

    Be a safe driver.......happy driving.

    regards
    srilak.

Thanks, Lata for your concern. Hubby is doing good, but slowly recovering.

True, everybody in the family was happy getting me the license.
Yeah, some outdoor activites are pending for my children which must be met.

    Hi Srilak,
    Thanks for your wishes.
It is true we should have more practice to get used to the road. I made it a point at least to drive an hour a day, but i had to see to it that DH also should not feel pressurised by that, so I am taking trips to the store, hospital and school.

Thanks for the thumb-rule, I will always remember.
