Thanks for responding. And what if they do their 9-12 schooling in USA. Will they still be eligible to appear in Indian entrance exams??
Is there any particular website that gives us this information. Please give me the link if you know of. Thank you!

    Overseas Citizenship of India Scheme
    (check out e )

it depends on the state. though the moia website claims. I know of kids who have studied in india, and though hold a oci, just apply as resident indians and get into colleges here.

Will be they charged at par with NRIs or locals? Is there any particular number of years they need to do their schooling to be considered local?

Shanvy, thanks for this link. At "e" it says..... Entitlement to appear for the All India Pre-Medical Test or such other tests to make them eligible for admission in pursuance of the provisions contained in the relevant Acts.

So, I think they are indeed allowed to appear in Engineering and Medical and such entrance tests.

    http://www.indusladies.com/forums/schools-playschools-daycares/114723-best-school-for-2-a.html we discussed sometime back.

and this year the government is more vigilant about the number of years. if your child does not do the required number of years, you can go through the non resident indian quote if engineering the dasa scheme has opened applicaiton portal in end january itself for 2013 admissions. and most engineering colleges have a nri/foreign students quota so do medical.

If the OCI student completes the requisite amount of years needed for domicile status and he writes the Common entrance exam and gets a merit rank, will his fees be similar to the local merit student or does he need to pay NRI quota fees??

Can anyone kindly answer the above question. Thanks
