    Hi All,

Checked up last week in PA Lakshmi Brand Sona Masuri was $ 35 for 20 lb bag, this one was the cheapest and rest were around $ 40.

Got to read that Rice ban has been extended, so i guess no immediate relief in near future.

    Cheers

    Ladies,

I tried VV's method 1 cup urad: 2 1/2 cups idli rava, came out well for idli.
Remember to grind only the urad(plus methi) very well. The idli rava just needs to be soaked for 2-3 hrs.Mix it with the ground urad and add salt.Don't ever grind the rava.I did it the last time and the idli just did not cook and was very pasty.

    For dosa, I do this:

    2 1/2 cups Raw rice(long grain)
    1/2 cup boiled rice
    1 cup urad(plus methi)

I guess you can do without boiled rice too,not sure though.

It is insane to pay such huge amounts for sona masoori.I have moved over to Long grain and we are liking it too! I guess as long as there is demand for Sona masoori and as long as we are willing to pay any amount, the price will never come down!Drowning

    Hi,
We could not get idli rice in and around simi valley,CA.
Lakshmi brand ponni boiled rice is $35 per 20 lb bag.
For making idlies I have to shift to long grain, I think.
My husband says it is high time to use wheat flour more.

Not sure if the ban has been lifted.

    hi Jaisree,

I use long grain rice which i bought from costco.I get perfect dosa batter with this.I use rice and urad dal in 2:1 ratio. For idly i use idli rava which we get in indian stores in the ratio 1(urad dal):2 (idli rava).

For dosa even i tried with sona masoori , it was also nice.

Hope this is info is useful for u.

    Thanks

    Madhuri
