I have never used it. In fact, went and checked now to confirm what is a News Feed. It is: "Your News Feed: Activity stream for all users you follow." I read based on Alerts and Latest Replies with an occasional glance at New Threads. Gauri had recommended News Feed a few months ago when I said I missed reading threads started by some members. I guess my habit is going to be hard to change; will not start using News Feed as Alerts/ Latest Replies is good enough. Also, it will need some cleaning up as all Friends/Contacts from earlier forum software got imported as part of "People You Follow" in this new software. I was too nice and accepted all Friends requests back in the old software. : )
Doesn't it already do that? Send alerts when people I follow start threads? I can see it sends alerts when they Like a post or reply to thread. What would be ideal for me is: I do: clean up the list of people I follow. The system: sends me alerts when they reply to a post or start a thread. Nice to have would be disabling system sending me alert when they Like a post. That is TMI.
No, I don't think so. It doesn't alert you. It only shows-up in the newsfeed (new threads, new posts and new likes of those you follow). Am I wrong?
Yes you are right. No alerts come for new thread started by those I follow. I mixed up Newsfeed and Alerts. So, to answer the original question, receiving alerts when people I follow start threads would be nice. And perhaps also take away need to follow News Feed very regularly. I could go to News Feed if slow day : ) and I am wondering what the people I follow are up to beyond starting new threads.
