New to San Francisco

    We are moving to bay area sooner, looks like getting an apartment near BART station is a circus (especially around Fremont, Union City etc).
    How do people commute to SF downtown while they are staying away from BART station? is there any car pools running around? or just use car (heard that parking is also expensive)

    Current trend, ideas and advises are much appreciated!! :)
