    Hi
In tamil and in Hindi it is called as SABJA. In this hindi / tamil name it is available in Chennai supermarkets.
In India it is used in Falooda Icecream more..

It is good for stomach. I was advised to give the soaked sabja to my DH for his tummy pain.
It makes the stomach cool and it is good to eat in summer

I hope Iam clear for you.
In all Faloodas it is there.
    Regards
    Mrs.N:thumbsup

    Hi Chitra,

Chia seeds and sabja seeds are very different from each other.
Sabja seeds are also called basil seeds and they are the ones used in falooda's.
Chia seeds are also called salba because of a particular brand. There is no specific tamil name for chia and they basically originated from mexico.
Chia seeds can also be used as an egg substitue in baking, just like flax seeds.

    Hope this helps!

On your site, the English name for Sabja Seeds is Chia Seeds, however, on some other site Sabja Seeds are called 'Basil' or 'John's Wort'...

can you please confirm what's the right English name for Sabja Seeds. If it is CHIA SEEDS, then what is the hindi name for 'Basil'...

    Thank you
