Re: Need Help Using Microeave Oven..

you can cook vegetables like carrots, beans, potatoes, cauliflower, peas, and other vegetables that will require steam cooking. You will have to buy a microwave rice cooker, where you can cook both rice as well as vegetables and other sweet varieties like instant paal koa.

    Vegetables:

Vegetables cook really quick. Hardly 5 to 6 minutes. After cooking the vegetables, you can then add salt and season the vegetables. All you need to do is chop the vegetables, wash well and drain water. The vegetables need to be wet when placing in microwave. cook in high for 5 to 6 minutes. If you want to add vegetables for gravies like kurma, cook them first in microwave and then add to gravies. This makes the job real quick.

    Rice:

for one cup rice, you need to add the exact measurement of water that you add while cooking in ordinary pressure cooker. Then cook for 20 minutes in high. The cooked rice does not stick to each other and you can use this rice for all variety rice like lemon rice, fried rice etc.

You can also cook quick pulao. The recipe is,

    Ingredients:

1 cup rice ( I use Ravi Sona Masoori Brand for which I add almost 3 and 3/4 cups water.

    1large onion chopped
Mixed Vegetables or just Green Peas - 1 cup
    garlic (Optional)
    Cumin Seeds - 1 teaspoon
    Cloves and cinnamon
    Mint leaves (Optional)
    Bay Leaf
    Salt
Pulao Masala Powder (Preferably MTR Pulao Powder)
    Oil for seasoning

    Method:

Heat Oil in a Kadai. Add Cumin Seeds, Add Cloves and Cinnamon and Bay Leaf. Fry the onions and then add the garlic pods. Add the Mint leaves and the Mixed Vegetables (Do not cook the vegetables. It will get cooked when cooking the rice in microwave).

Mix well. Add the Rice and Salt. Add the Pulao Powder (Just less than 1/2 teaspoon is enough)

Transfer this content to a Microwave rice cooker and add water (Since I use Ravi Sona Masoori Rice, I add 3 and 3/4 cups water).

Stir well and cook for 20 minutes. Pulao is ready. Serve with chips or raita.

These kind of rice come handy in this fast world.

    Sweet:

You can make Paal Koa using condensed milk. If you want the recipe, I will be happy to share it with you.

Have a great time with the new comer.

    Tips for Using Microwave Oven..

    Hi Sowmini,

You can use the microwave for a number of things.

    1. Boiling Milk -- You can boil milk without letting it boil over. I normally boil about 3 cups of milk every morning for about 4 minutes. It is boiling hot. You can try with one cup and adjust to suit your needs.

    2. You can fry rava, semiya,(for upmas) rice and moong dal (for pongal)

    3. You can make pooranam for kozhukattai and poli in the Microwave.

    4. You can make upma and kesari also.

I noticed that you are in Dubai - PM me if you want to have more clarifications.

    Microwave ovens

They sound great and absolute time savers but beware, microwave energy does not do wonders for your health! avoid use of microwave cooking as much as you can! use conventional oven and or hob for cooking.

    Re: Microwave ovens

    1. For quick and even cooking cut vegetables in equal size.
    2. A larger quantity of food requires a longer cooking time.
