He worked as a software eng for some years but he is not interested in software field.Is there any chance to work on internet but not software?
There are freelance jobs available on the internet which he can browse and check. If hes not interested anymore in software development side then he can try teaching in colleges or work as computer faculty (NIIT/Aptech etc).
If he is an M.E or M.Tech degree holder and is passionate in teaching, he can take up a lecturer job in an Engineering college. I know the pay is good. 25k to start with.
They are many freelancing websites he could try. Some top ones are freelancer [dot] com, oDesk [dot] com. Hope this helps. -Vani
