Dos and donts during Navratri hi friends, Can anyone please tell me about the dos and donts during navratri, recently i came across a post about not to prepare podis, not taking garlic onions etc. I have planned to keep kolu this time and for the first time so pls help me .... thanks in advance vidyasundar
Re: Dos and donts during Navratri dear vidya, during these praying months, usually people don't take garlic and onion, these are rajasic food and tend to increase the virility in human, so some satvic food is grt during prayers, so it is better to have bath daily early morning and start with a little puja for the dolls, some neiyvedyam of sadam and paruppu, then some nice sundal daily, dont forget the rangoli which can be put on a thambalam, with different column like in flowers also like they do in kerala, kumkumam and manjal and arisimavu u can get gr8 stuff.. hope the others will also tell u more..sunkan
Re: Dos and donts during Navratri Hi Vidhya, Yes you are right. My mom says not just during Navarathri but during Tuesdays and Fridays no making of podis or pickles. That is because during these days the Goddess reside in our house as we do the poojas. Also no onions or garlic even during the Malayabaksham. That is from the Pournami till Vijayadasami. Also you need to wipe the house everyday as you plan to keep Golu. You are supposed to put Kolams in front of the house and in front of the Golu daily. Even though you dont do poojas everyday during Navaratri, you need to do a payasam for neivedhyam every morning and a sundal in the evening. Everyday give vethalai pakku, manjal kumkum with a fruit or coconut (if your budget permits), a comb and a mirror and a small gift or blouse bit.
