nature has always its remedy for each and every thing within itself.but as a human being we always fail to notice it.
the news channels, the print media and all talk a lot about the sufferings of the pilgrims and the people of uttarkhand due to the latest himalayan tsunami.but no one is talking about the reason for such tragedies.even some went on to say it is due to karma or it is the curse of goddess kali who was evacuated during the construction of a hydro power plant across river alaknanda..
but everyone easily forget the reason for the recent cloud burst.uttarkhand is the birth place of chipko movement -though primarily a livelihood protection movement rather than a forest conservation movement, went on to become a rallying point for many future . even though the Chipko Movement was awarded the Right Livelihood Award in 1987,it was gradually forgotten and again deforestation become prominent.
the forest cover started deteriorating at an alarming rate, resulting in hardships for those involved in labor -intensive fodder and firewood collection. This also led to a deterioration in the soil conditions, and soil erosion in the area as the water sources dried up in the hills.reckless deforestation had denuded much of the forest cover, resulting in the devastating Alaknanda River floods .
as human greediness grows the nature's fury also grows .so it is high time for us to learn the lesson.constructing dams and turning pilgrimage into tourism would not lead to growth.rather it has a devastating effect on the ecology.
so what is our role in bringing back the harmony in nature?don't we have any role?
are we going to keep mum?
