One of the great innovators in the modern Indian cinema, Maniratnam has finally found reorganization from his global counterparts. The veteran filmmaker has been chosen for Jaeger LeCoultre ‘Glory to the Filmmaker’ award at the 67the Venice International Film Festival. The prestigious and highly acclaimed award has so far been given to the filmmakers like Takeshi Kitano, Agnes Varda, Abbas Kiarostami and Sylester Stallone. Praising the esteemed filmmaker, the festival director, Marco Mueller said that Mani Ratnam has helped introduce auteur concept to the Bollywood and his cinema is known for precision and poise. His musical numbers in the films have inspired the style of other filmmakers and music videos. He said that Mani Ratnam has successfully handled the transition from regional cinema to the main stream Bollywood films. He never made the films for the sake of it and avoided mass-produced regional cinema. On the award ceremony function, Mani Ratnam’s much awaited forthcoming film Raavan will also be premiered and the function is likely to be attended by the cast and crew of the film.
