    Hello Friends,

I am not very sure whether this is a befitting forum for this. But I would like to know about changing name after marriage. I would prefer to add my husband's surname after my name instead of changing my surname to my husband's surname.

However, I am not aware of the implications of changing the name. I want to know:
    1. Will I have to get my name changed in all my marksheets.
    2. Will I have to get my name changed in Passport, PAN Card, Voter's Card etc.
    3. Will I have to get my name changed at my work place.
    4. Will I have to get the name changed in the registry documents of the property that I have bought?

Please suggest. I am not sure how to go about this.

    Regards

    Dear Rangoli
    Here are the answers
    1. Will I have to get my name changed in all my marksheets.
    NO
    2. Will I have to get my name changed in Passport, PAN Card, Voter's Card etc.
    Passport -yes , PAN card-no, Voters id-No
    3. Will I have to get my name changed at my work place.
    Yes
    4. Will I have to get the name changed in the registry documents of the property that I have bought?
    NO

For changing the name you need to publish it in two newspapers and make and affidavit from notary that you are changing ur name from this to that. This document will be a proof of your name change.

Is it also possible to continue with the maiden name or is it mandatory to get the name changed.

Will I face any problems if I continue with my maiden name?

Not compulsory i guess. I use my maiden name..because pan card is in maiden name and bank accounts are based on that. I use husband's surname for unofficial purposes.

    4. Will I have to get the name changed in the registry documents of the property that I have bought?
    This not sure

Rangoli pls edit your post to remove the real name, if it is.

All you need is a marriage certificate & just one document with new name, rest of the documents can continue with maiden name.
My passport had expired hence I got it done with new name & all new and old accounts are working for me.. office also has maiden name.

Thanks you ppl for the quick responses.
I have edited my post, though the name was not original.

What happens after we have a baby. The baby's parents usually have a common surname, but if I retain my maiden name, then my husband's and my surname would be different. In that case will I face problem for kids education or other aspects?

Rangoli, generally if kids are a result of love making, you're too much into love with your DH and SURNAMES really dont matter any longer.

Also most of the Indian families want the child to carry father's surname..

In many indian states post marriage your identity becomes as:
Wife Name + Husband name + husband Surname.
No matter what you write or dont, govt officials have their own way of working when you visit them as married couple.

    Hi,

even I never changed my surname and iam using my maiden name only. I have only few places like voter card with my DH surname.

i have 2 kids carrying their father's surname and no problem at all till now.

my DH also prefers writing my own name only when ever he has to fill any docs.

all my bank accounts, office id , pan , passport all with my own surname.

    and iam happy for that
